I am sure everyone has read several stories and polls the past few weeks about possible candidates that may run for against Senator Bill Nelson in 2012.   Part of the stirred up or false hype around certain candidates has to be directly related to our good friends at the Sugar Industry that would like to “solidify” a candidate for 2012 early on.

As much as I hate elections and even more that primaries because they often denigrate to a drunken bar fight, they exist for a reason.  Recent history, such as the Florida Governor’s and Senate races should be a sign of caution for those of us to ready to declare a victor before the candidates have run the course.  I vividly remember Marco Rubio announcing to run in April 2009 and no one thought he would have a chance.

First order for conservatives is to stand united and change the 2010 Florida Senate Race Rule of “ABC”, Anybody But Charlie, to “ABL”, Anyone But Lemieux, for 2012.    Senator Lemiuex should be handled with extreme cause because he has brains, unlike Crist, politically savvy and willing to do anything to win.

I am currently watching five candidates in no specific order, Senate President Mike Haridopolos, Former Leader Adam Hasner, Congressman Connie Mack, Mike McCalister and Nick Loeb.   Let the race begin!

You might be asking who is Nick Loeb.   He is my wild card draw, but could very easily topple the other candidates.  His recent life changing experience has caused him to “grow up” and  become a leader.   In addition his relationship with Sofia Vergara has centered the once “playboy.”  For those that don’t know Sofia Vergara, she is a conservative hot Emmy nominated Columbia actress that you will find in “Modern Family” and other popular shows.  Nick has a great heart, huge ambitious, but also the ability to raise millions.   This couple is Caliente! Check out the speech Nick gave at the first West Palm Beach Tea Party.

I have heard several rumors that Congressman Connie Mack lives in California.  Expect his residency to be challenged early on if Mack officially jumps in.  Republicans have two major congressional eyesores in Florida, Connie Mack’s residency being one.  Let’s hope these individuals quietly walk away without damaging conservatives.

Senate President Mike Haridopolos will likely be one of the most conservative Florida Senate Presidents ever.   He is also very connected and was able to raise millions for Florida Senate Candidates in 2010.   I think it will be difficult for him to run for Senate and while at the same time being the Florida Senate President.   Senator Atwater was successful at this maneuver because he was only dealing with Florida state issues.   Mike will have his hands full trying to rodeo both state policy and federal policy, run the Senate and campaign for Federal office.

McCalister drew 10% of GOP Florida Governors Primary in 2010 without any resources.   As much as I like Mike, feel he is not likely to be a serious candidate because he lacks a realistic campaign strategy.   Running around and ranting at the local tea party meetings is good, but I feel McCalister lacks the ability to connect with the super voters or middle voters.

This past week I have noticed a few “pro” Hasner Facebook pages pop up.  Adam Hasner is a rock solid conservative that should give all candidates a run for their money.   Hasner lacks statewide name recognition, but so do the other candidates.   Expect Adam to play toward his consistency of being a conservative from a part of the Florida that eats conservatives for breakfast on a regular basis.   Hasner will also deploy a very sophisticated policy approach on federal issues which most of the other candidates lack.   I also expect his leadership to put him in front or near the front.

Who knows which candidate will be the front runner in 2012.  Honestly I just hope to see a conservative that has a large amount of support running.   We can’t afford Senator Bill Nelson.  He is destroying the future of Florida and America with is liberal big government policies.

 

Health Care, What Happens Now?

Okay so what happens now on Health Care? The House fails to pass this bill what happens, HR3962 is dead, but the House could begin a new modified bill though its processes. It would not be a dead issue, just probably less a Socialist Power Grab and more substantive health care reforms and 3rd. party… payer controls as a final bill.

Assuming the House passes the bill, the White Hot Heat goes back to the Senate. Harry Reid, majority leader, has (right now) a joint Committee Senate bill under works where both Senate Committee Bills are being combined. The combination bill is a behind closed doors effort. Reid, has announced that this effort is in SloMo and he doubts he can get a bill to the Senate floor before the new year. Why? Reid has trouble back in Nevada and he worries that he’ll be turned out by the Nevada Voters. One Third of the Senate faces the voters in 2010 and should the Dems loose 10 seats in the Senate, they loose control of the government agenda at least thru 2012. Further, no Senator wants to run on having passed a Health Care Bill with a public option, even if they want it in a bill. Why? They know that 55% of American does not want it. Hence, a Senator sees their re election as DOA if they read this one wrong. House leadership told their members to “fall on their swords” and pass the bill and Obama would do everything to help them over come the fall out.

Well, Govenor Corizine’s massive defeat after five Obama promotional visits highligned the value of that experience with Obama, has put a chill on the value of that promise for support. Thus, Senators are seeing a rough ride in the coming months and will not rush to the chopping block, no matter how much pressure they get from Obama or Reid. (A U.S. Senator has the best job in the world!) So, I see Conservatives getting a time window to consolidate power, raise funds and focus on individual week Senators to walk away on the bill and defeat the Senate passing a healthcare bill. Remember, that is now unwanted by 55% of the American people and that public sentiment is growing by 1-2% every few weeks! Such an act of passage would not play well in any officials 2010 re-election bid. All that said, should Reid, unpredictably push a Health Care bill to the Senate floor, the “Conservative Nation” will again get a chance to defeat it, but Reid will need all 60 votes to close off Filibuster. Right now, he doesn’t have those votes. The course of events in the House will have a lot of influence in how the Dem’s in the Senate react as they will watch the back lash the House members get the House passes their bill.

So to chill Senatorial Ardor to pass a Senate Heakth Bill, we need to WHIP the Congress for passing a bill, it needs to get really ugly in an all out attack on each “Yea” vote back in their home districts. That will temper the Senatorial zeal to press for quick passage. If the Senate still seeks to pass a bill this year, we attack the Senators with all the grass roots pressure we can muster in protest, demonstration and political attack on their future as a Senator.

If the Senate passes their bill, what Happens? The House and Senate bills would then be sent to JOINT CONFERENCE were House and Senator members (behind closed doors) horse trade the provisions of each bill in to a single bill. This compromise Bill when completed is then sent back to the House and the Senate for final Passage. We do not get any leverage in the Joint committee, but. When the Compromise Bill is complete, it must be first acted on by , you guessed it, the full Senate. Now We get a new chance to stop it in the Senate. If the Senate fails to pass it, it dies. If they do pass it, goes back to the House.

In the House we get a final last chance to defeat the bill. If we have sufficiently obtained the Houses attention earlier and with re election now looming ever closer our opposition must be politically devastatingly and frightening to those that expect to actually be re elected. We have to make the Capital Dome shake to the foundation to cause the Blue Dogs and Turncoats to back off passage in an election year. It is a tall order, and the path to defeat is long and arduous.

If by some stoke of luck and hard work, we delay the passage in to the spring, we will have a single special election of national scope in the Spring. This single election to replace the departed Rep Wexler in the Florida 19th. district will be a national battlefield. This sole election will be an national focus for Marxists and Conservatives to battle their ideas and their ideals. The Florida 19th is the battleground with so much at stake it should stagger the mind. Why, because this battle will foretell the congressional elections in the fall. The test of Obama’s coat tail effect, his Marxist policies against the the shape of the Conservative agenda. Platforms, and electioneering will all be tested and can shape the entire fall election agenda. If health care has not passed in to law by the Fl. 19th election, it would be unlikely to pass there after if the Conservatives win the special election. The conservative agenda must be to coalesce, develop fund raising, and provide an incredible level of human effort to beat this bill with all out effort at every step of the way.

In order to assist Members, staff, and interested parties seeking to read and review the health “reform” legislation (H.R. 3962) introduced by House Democrats, the Republican Conference has compiled a list of important page numbers and provisions in the 1,990-page “Affordable Health Care for America Act:”

Page 94—Section 202(c) prohibits the sale of private individual health insurance policies, beginning in 2013, forcing individuals to purchase coverage through the federal government

Page 110—Section 222(e) requires the use of federal dollars to fund abortions through the government-run health plan—and, if the Hyde Amendment were ever not renewed, would require the plan to fund elective abortions

Page 111—Section 223 establishes a new board of federal bureaucrats (the “Health Benefits Advisory Committee”) to dictate the health plans that all individuals must purchase—and would likely require all Americans to subsidize and purchase plans that cover any abortion

Page 211—Section 321 establishes a new government-run health plan that, according to non-partisan actuaries at theHULewin GroupUH, would cause as many as 114 million Americans to lose their existing coverage

Page 225—Section 330 permits—but does not require—Members of Congress to enroll in government-run health care

Page 255—Section 345 includes language requiring verification of income for individuals wishing to receive federal health care subsidies under the bill—while the bill includes a requirement for applicants to verify their citizenship, it does not include a similar requirement to verify applicants’ identity, thus encouraging identity fraud for undocumented immigrants and others wishing to receive taxpayer-subsidized health benefits

Keep the pressure up — we are winning!

July 22 (Bloomberg) — President Barack Obama and congressional Democratic leaders are trying to mend fissures within their own party over plans to overhaul U.S. health care.

A rebellion over the cost of the legislation prompted Obama to summon some Democrats to the White House for talks as a congressional committee delayed drafting its bill and Republicans sought to capitalize on the friction.

Negotiations over the most sweeping changes in health care in more than four decades have proven so difficult that House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer left open the possibility Congress may fail to meet Obama’s August deadline for legislation.

“The seven of us can’t support the bill as it stands,” said Representative Mike Ross of Arkansas, a leader of the Blue Dog Coalition of fiscally conservative Democrats, speaking for a group of lawmakers who met with Obama yesterday to voice concern over a plan unveiled July 14 by House leaders.

Obama spent more than an hour talking with those lawmakers, who are members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has yet to pass its part of the legislation.

To help win over the Blue Dogs, Committee Chairman Henry Waxman agreed to include a provision to create an independent commission to set reimbursement rates for Medicare providers each year. Ross said such a body would take politics out of decisions on the federal insurance program for the elderly.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — House Democrats unveiled a sweeping health-care overhaul bill on Tuesday that aims to lower costs, cover the uninsured and force employers to offer coverage, saying they plan to pass the historic legislation before their August recess.

The bill would tax wealthy Americans to help pay for an overhaul, putting a graduated surcharge on those making more than $350,000 a year. For families earning between $350,000 and $500,000, the tax would be 1%; for those making $500,000 to $1 million the tax would be 1.5%. Read more. The tax, or surcharge as it is being referred to in the bill, would only apply to the amount of income exceeding $350,000 or the agreed-upon threshold.

President Barack Obama praised the bill even before Democrats went before cameras on Capitol Hill on Tuesday afternoon to roll it out, saying it begins to fix what’s broken in the U.S. health-care system.

“This proposal controls the skyrocketing cost of health care by rooting out waste and fraud and promoting quality and accountability,” Obama said in a statement.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Tuesday that she expects a House vote on the bill before her chamber leaves for its August recess on July 31.

“Inaction is not an option for us,” she said.

The bill, which totals more than 1,000 pages, is broadly in line with Obama’s goals and immediately drew fire from Republicans.

It requires employers to offer insurance coverage to their workers and imposes penalties on individuals who don’t buy insurance. It also sets up a public health-insurance option, which would compete with private insurers. Also under the bill, insurers wouldn’t be able to deny coverage to individuals with pre-existing conditions. See bill text.

Democrats in the House and Senate have been aiming to pass health-care reform bills before their August breaks. Democrats and Obama are attempting to cover the 47 million uninsured Americans.

Max Baucus on how to pay for health care

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) presented his members Thursday with more than a dozen ways to pay for health care legislation, ranging from new fees on industry to an income-tax hike on couples making more than $1 million a year.

Faced with a $320 billion hole in his reform plan, Baucus revisited options that were considered in the past, but never emerged as top-tier options because he believed taxing employer-provided health benefits was the best way to provide that revenue.

The Senate Democratic leadership nixed the idea this week, saying the caucus could not support it because it would hurt the middle class. They asked Baucus, who was closing in on a deal, to go back to the negotiating table and find a more politically viable plan to pay for the $1 trillion reform bill.

Instead of relying on one major source of funding, the committee will have to piece together revenue from a variety of places. The list, as detailed to POLITICO by people familiar with the negotiations, shows senators could fill the $320 billion gap quickly if they were able to find consensus to:

  • Broaden the 1.45-percent Medicare tax on earned income to “passive income,” which could include money from capital gains, rental properties and businesses that do not require direct participation. This could raise $100 billion.
  • Levy a five-percent surtax on individuals who earn more than $500,000 and couples that make $1 million.
  • Tax health benefits at a higher level than had been considered. Two scenarios are in play. Taxing plans worth more than $20,300 for a family and $8,300 for an individual could raise $240 billion. Increasing the cut-off to plans worth more than $25,000 would bring $90 billion.
  • Capping the tax break on itemized deductions at 28 percent, as President Barack Obama had proposed, or freezing the top deduction rate at 35 percent when the Bush tax cuts expire in 2010. The first scenario would raise $168 billion, while the second would collect $90 billion.
  • Issue tax credit bonds to pay for the proposed Medicaid expansion, raising $75 billion.
  • Charge fees to pharmaceutical manufacturers, bringing in as much as $20 billion, and insurance providers, raising $75 billion.

FOX NEWS, WASHINGTON — Americans who refuse to buy affordable medical coverage could be hit with fines of more than $1,000 under a health care overhaul bill unveiled Thursday by key Senate Democrats looking to fulfill President Barack Obama’s top domestic priority.

The Congressional Budget Office estimated the fines will raise around $36 billion over 10 years. Senate aides said the penalties would be modeled on the approach taken by Massachusetts, which now imposes a fine of about $1,000 a year on individuals who refuse to get coverage. Under the federal legislation, families would pay higher penalties than individuals.

In a revamped health care system envisioned by lawmakers, people would be required to carry health insurance just like motorists must get auto coverage now. The government would provide subsidies for the poor and many middle-class families, but those who still refuse to sign up would face penalties.
