How ‘Act of Valor’ Broke Through to the Mainstream

6:52 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

Conservative films are the rarest of movie genres. You’re more likely to see a new western or musical than a film directly targeting the Right. And the right-of-center films which turn a handsome profit represent a smaller sub-section of that film niche.

Yet “Act of Valor,” a pro-military, pro-American war movie, conquered the box office with a $24.5 million haul over the weekend despite several marketing hardships. No big movie stars. No fast-food tie ins. No built-in brand awareness or pop culture source material to fall back on.

No problem.

That begs the question – why did “Valor” buck Hollywood conventional wisdom?

  • Ideology Not Front and Center: ”Act of Valor” doesn’t preach. We don’t get sermons about the righteousness of the U.S. mission to smite terrorists. Instead, the action comes first, and nothing exists to take us out of the experience.
  • CGI-free Zone: The directors of “Valor” both previously served as movie stunt men. And they started “Valor” with the mission to avoid CGI whenever possible while shooting action sequences. The results pop off the screen in an age when the movie-going public is getting bored of computer-driven sequences.
  • Targeted Marketing: Not every film studio can pony up for a Super Bowl commercial. But the folks behind “Act of Valor” scratched together enough pennies to promote the film on the recently completed Super Bowl broadcast, a perfect way to reach the film’s target audience – males who enjoy the All-American sports event of the year.
  • Give ‘em What They Want: Hollywood released one anti-war film flop (“Lions for Lambs”) after another (“In the Valley of Elah”). It makes perfect sense that a war film which honored, rather than trashed, the U.S. military would be embraced by movie goers. It took an independent film like “Act of Valor” to prove what should have been obvious to the greenest of movie producers.

After Decade of Military Dominance, U.S. Negotiates with Taliban as Equals

3:24 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

On September 11, 2001, Al Qaeda attacked us.  The terrorist group planned the attacks from its bases in Afghanistan; the Taliban, one of the most evil, bigoted, fascistic groups on the planet, provided Al Qaeda aid and support. When America launched its assault on Afghanistan, then, deposing the Taliban was a chief aim.  “More than two weeks ago, I gave Taliban leaders a series of clear and specific demands,” President Bush said.  “Close terrorist training camps; hand over leaders of the al Qaeda network; and return all foreign nationals, including American citizens, unjustly detained in your country. None of these demands were met. And now the Taliban will pay a price.”  The war against the Taliban continued for the next decade.

And now, the U.S. is surrendering.

Today, the U.S. government opened negotiations with Hamid Karzai’s Afghan government and the Taliban. The Obama Administration said that an “Afghan peace process” was vital to winding down the war in Afghanistan. While the Obama Administration is putting conditions on the talks – they say that the Taliban must disengage from Al Qaeda, “abandon violence,” and abide by the new Afghan constitution – there is no evidence whatsoever that the Taliban has done any of these things.  And yet negotiations begin.

There is little doubt that the Obama negotiations with the Taliban are deeply connected to Obama’s re-election campaign. He’s already pledging to pull troops out of Afghanistan as soon as possible. But it is a sell-out of what our troops have accomplished over the last ten years. That’s why back in 2009, the U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan was denying that the U.S. would engage in talks with the Taliban. That position has gone by the wayside. Obama and his cronies at the State Department have turned Afghanistan into a second Vietnam – and the Afghan people, particularly women, will pay the price.

‘Chains’ Comments Weigh Down Coverage of Biden’s VA Return

4:15 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

When Vice President Joe Biden returned to the Richmond, Virginia area Tuesday morning for a campaign event, local newscasts ensured Richmond voters would not forget the racially charged comments from his last visit.

Biden alleged presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Republicans wanted to “put y’all back in chains” at an August campaign rally. The audience for the speech was half black, and the even was held in Danville, a city with a history of racial strife.

Multiple Richmond television newscasts opened their coverage of Biden’s visit with a reminder of the gaffe.

FOX RICHMOND’S reporter: The Secret Service is here getting the fairgrounds ready for Vice President Biden’s visit here to Chesterfield. The last time Biden was in Virginia he stirred some controversy. He told a largely African American crowd in Danville that Republicans wanted to, quote, unchain Wall Street and put them back in chains.

CBS RICHMOND’S anchor: This is the Vice President’s first visit to the region since August 14th, when he notoriously told a largely African American crowd that Mitt Romney would, quote, put them back in chains.

NBC RICHMOND’S anchor: Vice President Biden is well known for occasionally putting his foot in his mouth like many politicians and his last trip to Virginia was a little controversial. The last time Biden came to the Commonwealth, he said Republicans want to, quote, unchain Wall Street. He said this in Danville in front of a largely African-American crowd, and some took offense to his reference to chains.

Tonight on ‘The New Normal’: The GOP Perspective?

3:47 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

The freshman NBC comedy “The New Normal” is the creation of Ryan Murphy, the man behind “Nip/Tuck” who famously supports President Barack Obama.

The show also features a cranky Republican character played by Ellen Barkin, the actress whose Twitter feed is a near-nonstop assault on all things GOP.

Tonight, “The New Normal” will be told through a “Republican” filter, according to Murphy.

“You have two gay clearly liberal guys at the heart of the show. We all collectively thought it would be great to an episode where you presented Ellen’s point of view, the conservative point of view, the Republican point of view that hopefully was eloquent and was given equal time,”

The episode, dubbed “Obama Mama,” was inspired by Murphy’s affection for sitcom king Norman Lear (“All in the Family”).

Color us skeptical.

It would be wonderful of liberal celebrities opened their minds to different view points. That kind of diversity could actually enhance the shows and films we see. While actors often discuss the importance of traveling abroad and seeing the world through the eyes of others, those eyes rarely belong to people who praise, say, Ronald Reagan or (gulp) Sarah Palin.

We’ve recently seen what happens when a talented liberal writer tried to embrace the Right. Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin cast Jeff Daniels as a moderate Republican anchor in HBO’s “The Newsroom,” which debuted earlier this year.

What was the result? You’d be hard pressed to find anyone on TV bashing the Right as frequently as Daniels’ character did during the show’s first season.

That’s not to say an open-minded liberal can’t tell a story from the “other side.” New York Post columnist and film critic Kyle Smith gave liberal Frank Rich kudos for trying to understand how Republicans think.

Can we expect a Sorkin-like experience? Or, perhaps something similar to what Smith found in Rich’s piece? Or is “Obama Mama” a calculated ploy to boost the show’s ratings?

We’ll find out tonight starting at 9:30 p.m. EST tonight.

This Petition is Making Me Violent!!!!!

3:30 pm in Uncategorized by BigFurHat

PJ Tatler

The leadership of the Islamic Society of Greater Kansas City have launched an online petition campaign for President Obama to back a bill to limit the free speech of American citizens they deem offensive.

The petition states:

The undersigned Board Of Directors and members of the Islamic Society of Greater Kansas City (ISGKC) urges you to sponsor a bill that outlaws any action that may insult one’s religion.  We utterly disagree with the violence that has taken place and the death of United States Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and other members of the United States embassy staff in Libya.  We support the apprehension and conviction of those responsible for such acts.

We understand the First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights and, as such, prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, etc., but when the allowance of “free” speech incites violence it should be banned.

More

So this is the measure? If your speech makes me violent YOU’VE broken the law? Only a backwater people who blame the woman for being raped can come up with this kind of friggin’ logic.

Any U.S. leader who entertains such nonsense should be impeached.

New Obama ‘Pigford’ Farmers Settlements Designed For Fraud

3:25 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

The Obama administration is rolling out a new USDA claims process that will allow Latinos, Hispanics or anyone of any race who is related to a woman (which means everyone) a $50,000 check if they’re willing to provide a couple of pages of paperwork and a notarized statement claiming that they or someone related to them “attempted to farm.”

This is a continuation of the Pigford “attempted to farm” payout scheme that was promoted, protected and perfected by Barack Obama and that has been the subject of a two-year investigation by Breitbart News.

The USDA said in a statement yesterday:

This Administration has made it a priority to resolve all of the past program class action civil rights cases facing the Department, and today’s announcement is another major step towards achieving that goal. In February 2010, the Secretary announced the Pigford II settlement with African American farmers, and in October 2010, he announced the Keepseagle settlement with Native American farmers. Both of those settlements have since received court approval. Unlike the cases brought by African American and Native American farmers, the cases filed by Hispanic and women farmers over a decade ago were not certified as class actions and are still pending in the courts as individual matters. The claims process provides a voluntary alternative to continuing litigation for Hispanic and female farmers and ranchers who want to use it.

Emphasis added to show that despite the fact that courts did not classify the women or Latino settlements as class action settlements. Instead, the Obama administration took it on its own initiative to make these payouts. The USDA was not forced into this settlement by court decision; President Obama built this.

To properly read between the lines in the bureaucratic doublespeak and intentionally dense legalese that makes up Farmers Settlement documentation, it is important to understand how fraud actually worked in Pigford. Fraud was not primarly people falsely claiming that they had farmed. It was actually much simpler than that. You did not need to prove that you actually farmed, only that you “attempted to farm.”

The low bar was a trick that the lawyers and politicians put into Pigford years ago; the “attempted to farm” standard. All you had to do was to say that you attempted to farm. In other words, you made the unprovable claim that you went to a USDA office and they did not even give you an application. Your lack of an application or any other documentary evidence became the proof that you had suffered discrimination.

This was explained in an interview nearly two years ago with Thomas Burrell, the head of the Black Farmers Agricultural Associate. ,In this video, Mr. Burrell explains that over 90% of the people who collected $50,000 checks in Pigford were ‘attempted to farm’ claimants.

So far, billions of dollars have been given away to people who never farmed a day in their life–and the upcoming Pigford II extension that was introduced by Senator Obama and subsequently signed by President Obama will add billions more. In addition to these direct cost of payouts to ‘attempted to farm’ claimants, there are also untold millions or billions in waste, lost time and bad loans that were forced through by the USDA.

The women and Latino farmer settlements extend this same process that will lead to billions of dollars in fraudulent claims by people who are unable to avoid the temptation of easy money. This same “attempted to farm” standard is literally built right into the women and Latino farm settlements that Obama Administration’s USDA is offering.

There’s over $1 billion currently set aside specifically to pay off “attempted to farm“ claimants. The attempteds are described in the new settlement as Tier 1(a) claimants. According to the official government website FarmerClaims.GOV, the standard includes.

If you are Hispanic, you farmed, or attempted to farm, between January 1, 1981, and December 31, 1996, or between October 13, 1998, and October 13, 2000;

If you are female, you farmed, or attempted to farm, between January 1, 1981, and December 31, 1996, or between October 19, 1998, and October 19, 2000;

You were the owner-operator or a tenant-operator of farm property, or you attempted to own or lease farm land, during the same time periods listed above;

You applied for a farm loan or for farm-loan servicing at a USDA office during one of the time  periods listed above; or for those seeking a Tier 1(a) payment only, you made a bona fide effort to  apply for a farm loan or for farm-loan servicing, and USDA actively discouraged the application  during one of those  time periods;

Please note that you don’t even have to it on the land. All you have to do is to claim that you attempted to own or lease farmland, which means you say you did.

The official application checklist makes the ‘attempted to farm’ standard requirements clear; all you need is a sworn statement from ‘a witness’ saying you attempted.

Tier 1(a) (Attempted Application Only)

A sworn, veri? ed, or notarized witness statement, OR a contemporaneous written discrimination complaint to USDA, OR a document from a non-family member to you, or from you to a non-family member that supports your contentions

Here’s how this works in practice. Let’s say your mother passed away 10 years ago. No problem, you can file on her behalf. In order to collect $50,000, you would need to file in her name and get a sworn statement from someone saying that she went to the USDA during the proper time period but the mean, racist, sexist people there would not even give your dear mother an application. Could you make that sworn statement yourself? I don’t see anything that would keep that from happening. However, with the lure of a $50,000 check to jog their memory, it shouldn’t be hard to find a witness or two.

Better hurry. You only have until March 2013 to file.

Planned Parenthood: ‘There’s A Little Bit of Slut In All of Us!’

3:20 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

Just in case you were wondering whether Planned Parenthood supports sexual promiscuity, they’ve elucidated their position: “slut” is a positive word. Their Facebook page for teenagers carries a video from MTV Voices with Francisco Ramirez, subtly titled “Sextra Credit 2.” In it, Ramirez, a gay activist, says, “A lot of people define slut as someone who has too much sex or too many partners – but according to who? The slut fairy?”

Ramirez wasn’t done yet: “Did you know that some people use slut in a positive way? They use it to define a woman who is confident in her sexuality and being the sexual being that she is. I personally think there’s a little bit of slut in all of us. So embrace it!”

Terrific. From a company that provides abortion to cover their costs to promote sexual promiscuity seems less than shocking.

Karen Handel, a former top executive at Komen for the Cure who quit after Komen became the focus of a targeted Obama administration assault over their lack of support for Planned Parenthood, wasn’t surprised. “Planned Parenthood promotes promiscuity, STDs and abortion instead of academic achievement, integrity and hand work as defining characteristics of young women,” said the author of the new bestselling book, Planned Bullyhood. “Planned Parenthood glorifies ‘sluttiness’ at the expense of self respect among women, defining them as sexual objects instead of our next generation of scientists, doctors, entrepreneurs, and mothers.”

BH Interview: ‘C.S.I’ Creator Trades TV for Web with ‘Cybergeddon’

3:14 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

Anthony E. Zuiker is responsible for one of modern television’s most durable franchises – “C.S.I.” That’s the kind of clout that should give Zuiker the creative freedom most artists crave.

You won’t find his latest project on ABC, CBS, Fox or NBC, though. Nor will you surf onto it at AMC, HBO or TNT.

The first three chapters of Zuiker’s “Cybergeddon” went live today across 25 countries in 10 different languages on Yahoo!. The show will roll out as a series of nine digital chapters – three per day over the next three days.

Consumers simply embrace content in ways they never did before, something which compelled him to bring “Cybergeddon” to the Web first.

“We are ironically in the Golden Age of Television,” Zuiker tells Big Hollywood, adding it’s an age “wrapped up in our technological revolution.”

His latest creation is certainly a snug fit for our changing times.

“Cybergeddon” stars Missy Peregrym (“Stick It,” “Rookie Blue”) as an investigator checking out a seemingly unrelated series of cyber-attacks. Her character ends up caught in a digital web, and now she must use her unique skills to clear her name. The series also stars Olivier Martinez (“Unfaithful”) and Manny Montana (“Breakout Kings”).

The show includes an immersive site featuring additional show clips, behind-the-scenes footage, more revealing character information and interviews with the cast and crew. And, for those intrigued by the cyber-crime issues in play, they can learn more about the frightening realities behind the fictional tale.

Zuiker modified his narrative approach for the new medium – even though the entire project essentially represents a 90-minute movie. The segments were designed to be watched in 10 minute installments, necessitating a need for mini-cliffhangers to keep viewers coming back for more.

“I didn’t have the liberty to take our time in the storytelling. It’s a very high pace,” he says.

Fleshing out the cast for “Cybergeddon” wasn’t as simple as some of his previous projects. Some actors’ agents “didn’t understand what we were doing,” he admits. “For those who met with us, and me in particular, it wasn’t an issue.”

His show’s stars aren’t going to get rich here, though.

“They’re not going for their normal fees. It’s a passion project,” he says.

Zuiker and crew teamed up with Norton, the company behind the popular anti-virus software, to both research the project and offer the kind of cross promotional relationships seen in recent years. Call it the zenith of product placement seen on the small screen for some time now.

Zuiker isn’t giving up on television. His production company continues to produce daily shows, and the “C.S.I.” franchise remains in play. He also understands it’s shrewd to have a Plan B. The commercial model which kept TV shows afloat for decades is “crumbling and failing,” and it’s time to investigate newer ways of reaching the masses.

“We have to evolve with the technology and the global behavior shift,” Zuiker says.

Iran Test Fires Missiles as Obama Speaks at UN

3:07 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

Today, as President Barack Obama spoke at the United Nations, Iran test-fired a series of four missiles specifically created to hit warships in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the Iranian government, the missiles hit a target the size of a ship, sinking it within 50 seconds. Iranian media also reported that the military exercise was designed to occur coincident with US naval maneuvers in the Persian Gulf. The Iranian military stated that their navy would be holding a “massive” maneuver shortly.

Meanwhile, the only anti-missile system in development by the United States is under fire from the Obama Defense Department. The Defense Department has requested reallocation of funds from the Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System (JLENS), which the military has spent $2 billion developing since 2005. According to the Committee on Present Danger:

JLENS is the latest and most advanced Army system to detect, identify, track  and engage multiple and potentially hostile targets, including low-flying cruise missiles, large caliber battlefield missiles, air and land vehicles, ships and small boats.

The Obama campaign against America’s ability to defend herself – a campaign that will culminate in the Obama-created sequester in January 2013, which will slash the military budget dramatically – is reaping very real consequences. No wonder Iran is happy to fire off small missiles even as the President of the United States takes to the UN podium.

MacIver: Military Voters in Wisconsin Told to Submit Ballots a Week After Deadline

3:04 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

The Federal Voting Assistance Program website published an incorrect deadline for the return of returning military ballots in Wisconsin. Had this error not been corrected, thousands of Wisconsin servicemen and women could have been disenfranchised in this key swing state this November.

The FVAB website incorrectly stated ballots must be returned by November 16. The actual deadline is 4 p.m. November 9. Any military ballots received in that intervening week would not have been counted by local and state election officials.

MacIver News Service contacted the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board about the error on Tuesday and requested comment.

“All Wisconsin absentee ballots are due by 4 p.m. the Friday after the election. The FVAP site was incorrect,” said Reid Magney, GAB spokesman in an emailed response to the inquiry.

Ballots must be postmarked no later than Election Day, which in 2012 is Tuesday, November 6th.

According to their website, The FVAP provides U.S. citizens worldwide a broad range of non-partisan information and assistance to facilitate their participation in the democratic process – regardless of where they work or live. The FVAP also administers the Federal responsibilities of the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), which designates armed forces recruiting offices nationwide as voter registration agencies allowing eligible U.S. citizens to apply for voter registration, or apply to change voter registration data.

THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE ROAD

3:01 pm in Uncategorized by BigFurHat

Human Events

Jaws dropped across America as President Barack Obama described the Americans dead in Libya as mere “bumps in the road” during his 60 Minutesinterview on Sunday night

Asked about his support for “the governments that have come to power since the Arab Spring,” Obama replied, “Well, I’d said even at the time that this is going to be a rocky path.  The question presumes that somehow we could have stopped this wave of change. I think it was absolutely the right thing for us to do to align ourselves with democracy, universal rights: a notion that people have to be able to participate in their own governance.  But I was pretty certain, and continue to be pretty certain, that there are going to be bumps in the road because… you know, in a lot of these places, the one organizing principle has been Islam… the one part of society that hasn’t been controlled completely by the government.”

“There are strains of extremism, and anti-Americanism, and anti-Western sentiment,” the President continued.  “And you know can be tapped into by demagogues. There will probably be some times where we bump up against some of these countries and have strong disagreements, but I do think that over the long term, we are more likely to get a Middle East and North Africa that is more peaceful, more prosperous and more aligned with our interests.”

(Emphases mine.)  There’s so much wrong with this that it’s difficult to know where to start, but the extremely unfortunate choice of “bumps in the road” to describe the events of September 11, 2012, and the following week is simply amazing.  This is supposed to be the greatest orator in history?  Mitt Romney’s supposed to be the one dropping “gaffes” all over the place?

AFP Launches FL Campaign Against Judicial Activism

2:37 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

Americans for Prosperity has launched an initiative directed at informing Floridians about the threat of judicial activism in the state. They’re aiming their campaign specifically at telling Floridians about their right to vote on Florida Supreme Court justices via a process called merit retention. Floridians don’t get to elect their judges, but they do get the opportunity to vote on whether to retain justices once every six years.

AFP’s newest ad highlights the Florida Supreme Court’s bizarre decision to remove an amendment from the state ballot that would have allowed citizens to vote on whether they wanted Obamacare implemented in the state, particularly the individual mandate. The Court said that they’d have to place the full text of the amendment on the ballot, because the summary was “misleading” – and they said they couldn’t allow that to happen. Chief Justice Canady called out the Court for its judicial activism:

The courts should act with restraint when we are asked to interpose judicial power to bar the people from voting on a proposal submitted to them by their elected representatives.  Here, we could and should demonstrate appropriate restraint by placing on the ballot the “actual text of the amendment itself and not the proposed ballot summary.”

AFP’s campaign against judicial activism is vital at this point in time. State and federal judges have been taking the law into their own hands for decades, deliberately misreading law to reach their preferred political conclusions. AFP is standing up against that, and informing the public in Florida of their right to stand up, too.

Mysterious Virus Emerges in the Middle East

2:15 pm in Uncategorized by BigFurHat

WSJ

ATLANTA—Global health authorities are hunting for cases of a mysterious respiratory illness that killed at least one person in Saudi Arabia and left another who traveled there in intensive care in a London hospital.

Health officials said the source of the virus infecting both is unknown, though they have identified it as a coronavirus, part of a large family of viruses that in most cases cause common colds, but also have caused SARS.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome erupted in China in late 2002 and spread to a number of countries, infecting more than 8,000 people and killing about 775 before it disappeared in mid 2003.

The World Health Organization said the new virus has been identified in a 49-year-old man from Qatar who traveled to Saudi Arabia before falling ill Sept. 3. He is being treated for acute respiratory syndrome and kidney failure.

The virus that infected him bears a 99.5% similarity to one isolated from the lung tissue of a 60-year-old man from Saudi Arabia who died this summer after suffering respiratory and kidney failure, the WHO said.

Saudi officials identified a third death, but didn’t give further details. The WHO said it was a suspect case that can’t be confirmed postmortem.

However, the U.K.’s Health Protection Agency said it was investigating the case of a person from the Middle East who died in the U.K.

“There is no evidence at present to suggest that it is caused by the same virus or linked to the other two cases,” the HPA said, adding that it was “aware of a small number of other cases of serious respiratory illness in the Middle East in the past three months.”

The cases come a month ahead of the Hajj pilgrimage, which draws millions of Muslim pilgrims to Saudi Arabia. The Hajj pilgrimage runs this year from roughly Oct. 24 to Oct. 29.

Tip of the Day: ‘Keep On Fighting!’

1:45 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

We receive many tips and comments like this one, every day, but with Obama debasing his office at the UN today, this comment seemed particularly timely–and inspiring:

During halftime of the Arizona Cardinals football game, I witnessed the most shocking turn in political headwinds that I’ve ever seen in my life. Because of this incident, I felt the need to spread my story.

As halftime started and the commercials started rolling, an Obama political ad came on. I was with two dear friends of mine, one of which I never discuss politics with because of his hatred for all political parties, so I just bit my lip and stuffed a beer brat in my face. As the ad ended, and to my complete shock he said “You know, this is the first time in over ten years that I’ve registered to vote.” “Really?” I said back to him. “What made you change your mind?” “If we don’t get Obama out of there, this country is going to be in serious trouble.” Holy smokes! This coming from the guy that voted for Bill Clinton. This from the guy that hated George W. Bush with every ounce of his soul. This from the guy that watches John Stewart for his daily news! After choking on my food I asked him “So what happened?” He replied “Besides the economy, any President that bows to a foreign leader is repugnant. I don’t care what party you belong to, no American should be bowing to anyone.” To my fellow Conservatives, keep your heads up! No matter what the polls say, no matter what the media tells you, we are not losing! I truly believe that there are millions of Americans like my friend that will turn the tide in our favor and cast a ballot for Mitt Romney. Keep on fighting!

1:30 pm in Uncategorized by BigFurHat

Telegraph UK

The move, which has outraged Catholics, means only the word “parents” would be used in identical marriage ceremonies for all heterosexual and same-sex couples.

The draft law states that “marriage is a union of two people, of different or the same gender”.

It says all references to “mothers and fathers” in the civil code – which enshrines French law – will be swapped for simply “parents”.

The law would also give equal adoption rights to homosexual and heterosexual couples.

Justice Minister Christiane Taubira told France’s Catholic newspaper La Croix: “Who is to say that a heterosexual couple will bring a child up better than a homosexual couple, that they will guarantee the best conditions for the child’s development?”

“What is certain is that the interest of the child is a major preoccupation for the government.”

The head of the French Catholic Church Cardinal Philippe Barbarin warned followers last week that gay marriage could lead to legalised incest and polygamy in society.

He told the Christian’s RFC radio station: “Gay marriage would herald a complete breakdown in society.

Obama Labels Turkey a ‘Responsible’ Nation

1:28 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

Today, President Obama unilaterally labeled Turkey – yes, Islamist, Israel-hating Turkey – a beacon of democracy and human rights. Here’s the full context:

Nations in every part of the world have travelled this hard path. Europe – the bloodiest battlefield of the 20th century – is united, free and at peace. From Brazil to South Africa; from Turkey to South Korea; from India to Indonesia; people of different races, religions, and traditions have lifted millions out of poverty, while respecting the rights of their citizens and meeting their responsibilities as nations.

The idea that Turkey has met its responsibilities as a nation is absurd. Their latest Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is a full-scale Islamist and an ardent opponent of the State of Israel. In fact, his government sponsored the terror flotilla that tried to smuggle goods and weapons into the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.

According to the left’s favorite human rights organization, Human Rights Watch, Turkey is replete with violence and repression under Erdogan: “The government has not prioritized human rights reforms since 2005, and freedom of expression and association have both been damaged by the ongoing prosecution and incarceration of journalists, writers, and hundreds of Kurdish political activists, particularly through the misuse of overly broad terrorism laws. Violence against women in Turkey remains endemic. Police continue to use excessive force, particularly against demonstrators, and are rarely held accountable for such violence.”

But according to Obama, Turkey is a fully civilized member of the liberal nationhood contingent.

No wonder he’s so comfortable with the Islamist Arab Spring.

WaPo: After Controversy, Obama Now Attending ‘Nearly 100 Percent’ of Intelligence Briefings

1:16 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

Two weeks ago, Peter Schweizer’s Government Accountability Institute reported that President Obama was ditching over half of his intelligence briefings. According to their study, drawn from Obama’s own White House calendar, “During his first 1,225 days in office, Obama attended his PDB just 536 times — or 43.8 percent of the time. During 2011 and the first half of 2012, his attendance became even less frequent — falling to just over 38 percent.” Breitbart News covered Obama’s briefings shortcomings from the outset, bringing pressure to bear on the Obama administration to get their president to sit down and hear our intelligence. Our first story posted September 10, 2012. The next day, our consulate in Benghazi was attacked and our ambassador was murdered.

The Obama administration immediately fought back, with White House spokesman Jay Carney explaining, “The President of the United States gets the presidential briefing every day.”

That sent the Washington Post’s Obama-acolyte fact checker Glenn Kessler on a rampage. First, he labeled the claim that Obama “skips” his intelligence briefings “bogus.” He gave it three Pinocchios. Then he updated his column to give the claim four Pinocchios, explaining, “Upon reflection, we now realize that the GAI report had a bit of a math problem. The White House public schedule does not list meetings on weekends, so Obama automatically loses 28 percent of the “meetings” because of that fact.” This, of course, was not true – the GAI report took into account weekends, since it cross-tabulated White House data with Politico’s own data on Obama’s activities, which includes weekends.

But Kessler and the Obama lackeys have another problem. The public outcry over Obama missing his intelligence briefings has caused Obama to start attending his intelligence briefings.

According to Kessler’s own Washington Post.

Today, the Washington Post reported that President Obama is now attending nearly “100 percent” of his intelligence briefings. If the original claim was so bogus, why is Obama suddenly overhauling his schedule to attend significantly more intelligence briefings?

If these were all lies, it’s news to Obama.

“Next thing you know,” writes Al Kamen of the Post, “the White House Calendar, starting Sept. 14 (four days after Thiessen’s column) and for every workday last week and up to Monday, says that Obama — and sometimes, Vice President Biden — is briefed. No comment yet from the White House on why the apparent recent uptick in Obama’s ‘attendance.’”

According to Kessler and his other fact-checking Obama bootlickers, this must all be just a giant coincidence. Unless he’s willing to give his colleagues at the Washington Post a few Pinocchios.

Media Polls: The Newest Negative Campaign Ad

1:14 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

Over the years, I’ve generally had little patience when partisans make the “polls are wrong” argument. I’ve usually found it to be the last refuge of campaigns which were clearly struggling. Sure, individual polls can be wrong, and some can occasionally produce a crazy outlier, but a collective average of polling produces a roughly accurate snapshot of the state of a race. This year, however, is different. The overwhelming majority of media polling this election employ such absurd assumptions about turnout this November that they not only misrepresent the presidential race, they are actively distorting it. I also believe it is intentional.

In 2008, the electorate that elected Barack Obama was 39% Democrat, 32% GOP and 29% Independent. This is what we call a D+7 electorate. Obama defeated McCain by 7 points, the same margin. In 2004, the electorate was 37% Democrat, 37% Republican, and 26% Independent, in other words D/R +0. Bush defeated John Kerry by 3 points nationally.

Yet, virtually every big media poll is based on a model in which Democrats equal or increase their share of the electorate over 2008. Beyond simple common sense, there are many reasons this won’t happen. The Dem vote in ’08 was the largest in decades. It came after fatigue of eight years of GOP control, two unpopular wars, a charming Democrat candidate who was the Chauncy Gardner of politics, a vessel who could hold everyone’s personal dreams and hopes for a politician. It was a perfect storm for Democrats.

None of the factors driving Democrat turnout in ’08 exist today. Recent polls from AP, Politico and the daily tracking polls from Rasmussen and Gallup, all of which assume relatively lower Democrat turnout in November, show the race essentially tied. Only those polls showing an electorate with equal or greater numbers of Democrats show Obama with any sizable lead.

Yet, it’s these polls that are driving the political narrative. Every day the media launches a number of stories about Romney’s “struggling” campaign. They cite anonymous GOP sources who wring their hands that the campaign is losing ground. The only real evidence of this, however, are the polls which heavily over-sample Democrat voters. Without these skewed polls, the media’s narrative would be untenable.

Quite simply, and apart from past years, the media have decided to weaponize the polls. The heavy D polls aren’t just meant to reassure them that everything is okay in ObamaLand, but to actually hit the Romney campaign. The constant drumbeat echoed by unrealistic polls is designed to dampen fundraising, tap down on GOP enthusiasm and create a false narrative that Obama is pulling away with the race.

In recent days, a number of pollsters have pushed back against criticism about the sampling in their polls. They argue that they are just picking up a big swing in the electorate towards the Democrats. If that were true, though, wouldn’t we see signs of it outside the polls. Obama’s speaking to much smaller venues than he did in 2008. There are far fewer signs and bumper stickers supporting Obama. Obama’s main support bases, young voters and minorities, all show less enthusiasm for voting this year. None of this is dispositive, but if we were really seeing a return to the ’08 Democrat wave wouldn’t we, well, see it?

Every election features something new, an evolution from past campaigns. This year’s development is troubling. Polls are now being used, not simply to gauge the state of the race, but to impact the race. We’re not far off from the day that the New York Times or CBS will have to file their polls as in-kind contributions to the Democrats.

Priorities: Obama Tweets Thoughts On NFL Strike

1:13 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

According to the White House, when a tweet from President Obama’s confirmed account is initialed with the president’s  initials, it’s his own personal tweet.

And so, in the wake of last night’s NFL debacle, we get this…

-

-

Priorities.

But it’s all part of the No Drama Obama campaign plan — don’t you see?

Even though the Middle East is on fire and a fiscal cliff looms and the job picture is worsening and the economy is slowing and middle class incomes are shrinking….

No Drama Obama has it all under control.

After all, if Obama isn’t sweating it, why should we, right? If Obama thinks everything is okay, then his Media Palace Guards think everything is okay, which means there’s no real need to replace a sitting president when everything is okay. Okay?

So…

Chill.

Relax.

What are you so excited about?

It’s all good.

When there’s a crisis not to waste, don’t worry, we’ll let you know.

Obama’s 9/11/2001 Reaction Repeated in UN Speech

1:05 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

President Barack Obama told the United Nations today that the world should respond to the wave of anti-American attacks and outrage across the Middle East by looking at the “deeper causes,” not security, and fight anti-Islamic rhetoric. It was similar to the response he published eleven years ago, as an unknown state senator, in response to the original 9/11 attacks, in which he called for Americans to understand the “sources” of anger against the U.S. and emphasized standing up to “bigotry” against those of “Middle Eastern descent.”

In both cases, Obama refused to use the word “terror” or “terrorism” to describe the attacks.

Obama wrote in the Hyde Park Herald of Sep. 19, 2001:

We need to step up security at our airports. We must reexamine the effectiveness of our intelligence networks. And we must be resolute in identifying the perpetrators of these heinous acts and dismantling their organizations of destruction.

We must also engage, however, in the more difficult task of understanding the sources of such madness. The essence of this tragedy, it seems to me, derives from a fundamental absence of empathy on the part the attackers: an inability to imagine, or connect with, the humanity and suffering of others. Such a failure of empathy, such numbness to the pain of a child or the desperation of a parent, is not innate; nor, history tells us, is it unique to a particular culture, religion, or ethnicity. It may find expression in a particular brand of violence, and may be channeled by particular demagogues or fanatics. Most often, though, it grows out of a climate of poverty and ignorance, helplessness and despair.

We will have to make sure, despite our rage, that any U.S. military action takes into account the lives of innocent civilians abroad. We will have to be unwavering in opposing bigotry or discrimination directed against neighbors and friends of Middle Eastern descent…

Today, Obama made many of the same points in the UN General Assembly:

If we are serious about upholding these ideals, it will not be enough to put more guards in front of an embassy or to put out statements of regret and wait for the outrage to pass. If we are serious about these ideals, we must speak honestly about the deeper causes of the crisis, because we face a choice between the forces that would drive us apart and the hopes that we hold in common.

Today we must reaffirm that our future will be determined by people like Chris Stevens, and not by his killers. Today we must declare that this violence and intolerance has no place among our united nations….

At time, the conflicts arise along the fault lines of race or tribe, and often they arise from the difficulties of reconciling tradition and faith with the diversity and interdependence of the modern world. In every country, there are those who find different religious beliefs threatening. In every culture, those who love freedom for themselves must ask themselves how much they’re willing to tolerate freedom for others. And that is what we saw play out in the last two weeks, where a crude and disgusting video sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world. Now, I have made it clear that the United States government had nothing to do with this video, and I believe its message must be rejected by all who respect our common humanity. It is an insult not only to Muslims, but to America as well.

For as the city outside these walls makes clear, we are a country that has welcomed people of every race and every faith. We are home to Muslims who worship across our country. We not only respect the freedom of religion, we have laws that protect individuals from being harmed because of how they look or what they believe.

So, once again, security measures to stop terrorism–the unnamed threat–are insufficient to address the real problem, which is our universal failure to understand each other, especially the West’s failure to respect Islam. There are some changes–Obama’s UN speech is less concerned about security, and shows more faith in the tolerance of his fellow Americans–but the overall message is the same.

Four years in office have have not convinced Obama that radical Islamic terror is a unique evil.

UN Speech: Obama ‘Captivated’ by Arab Spring’s ‘Season of Change’

12:49 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

President Barack Obama referred to the Arab Spring as a “season of change” in his Tuesday address to the United Nations in New York. The President expressed that he supported this change and, by extension, so did the United States.

Obama proclaimed he had been “captivated” by the change that had taken place, and he provided some examples to bolster this point.

Of Tunisia he said, “We were inspired by the Tunisia protests that toppled a dictator. We recognized our own beliefs in those who took to the streets.” Of Egypt he said, “We insisted on change in Egypt, because our support for democracy put us on the side of the people.” He also boasted of the U.S. intervention in Libya’s uprising against Muammar Qaddafi.

Tunisian lawmakers are currently attempting to make Sharia the law of the land in their country. Early last week, US citizens were urged to flee Tunisia as the American embassy came under attack.

In Egypt, the president who emerged victorious after the Arab Spring is dictating future terms for US-Arab relations and mocking Obama in media interviews.

And in Libya, images of desecrated American flags, a burning consulate, and the dead body of Ambassador Christopher Stevens are still fresh in the Americans’ memories.

Obama described the values of the Arab Spring as “not simply American values or Western values — they are universal values.”

AFP – A Danish sperm donor has passed a potentially severe genetic disorder to five children after a screening test failed to catch that he had the disease, health officials said Monday.

The donor transmitted the tumor-producing nerve disorder Neurofibromatosis type I, sometimes known as Von Recklinghausen’s disease, to five babies he fathered, said the Copenhagen clinic where he gave sperm, Nordisk Cryobank.

“In the case of these five, we know that the disorder came from the donor,” even though the disorder is not always transmitted by a person’s parents, said the clinic’s director general, Peter Bower.

Obama on Iran: Time Not Unlimited, But No Deadlines

12:45 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

President Obama leveled yet another empty threat at Iran today at the United Nations, explaining that their “time is not unlimited.” However, Obama refused to set any red lines, and instead proclaimed that America still wanted to pursue diplomacy with Iranian dictator Mahmoud Ahmadinejad — even as he condemned Ahmadinejad as a propped-up dictator.

Here’s the transcript:

In Iran, we see where the path of a violent and unaccountable ideology leads. The Iranian people have a remarkable and ancient history, and many Iranians wish to enjoy peace and prosperity alongside their neighbors. But just as it restricts the rights of its own people, the Iranian government props up a dictator in Damascus and supports terrorist groups abroad. Time and again, it has failed to take the opportunity to demonstrate that its nuclear program is peaceful, and to meet its obligations to the United Nations.

Let me be clear: America wants to resolve this issue through diplomacy, and we believe that there is still time and space to do so. But that time is not unlimited. We respect the right of nations to access peaceful nuclear power, but one of the purposes of the United Nations is to see that we harness that power for peace. Make no mistake: a nuclear-armed Iran is not a challenge that can be contained. It would threaten the elimination of Israel, the security of Gulf nations, and the stability of the global economy. It risks triggering a nuclear-arms race in the region, and the unraveling of the non-proliferation treaty. That is why a coalition of countries is holding the Iranian government accountable. And that is why the United States will do what we must to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

This is transparent gobbledygook. Obama has no intention of setting any actual limits on Iran. He’s right that Iran’s a threat. But he has done nothing to contain or stop them. The idea that a “coalition of countries is holding the Iranian government accountable” is laughable. They’re moving full speed ahead on nuclear development. And Obama clearly doesn’t want to do what we must to prevent Iran from going nuclear. Hell, he won’t even let Israel do what it can to prevent Iran from going nuclear, repeatedly leaking Israeli military secrets to the press via the Department of Defense.

Obama lays out a great case for doing something about Iran. Too bad he won’t do it, and will prevent others from doing it.

Obama: America Won’t Retreat … Unless We’re Not Welcomed

12:25 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

At the United Nations today, President Obama explained to the world that we would not disengage from the Middle East … unless they were mean to us. He stated that America’s efforts in the Middle East depended on the goodwill of the people who were there; we could not impose our will, and if they weren’t willing to be good partners, then we might as well take our ball and go home.

Here’s his exact wording:

Understand that America will never retreat from the world. We will bring justice to those who harm our citizens and our friends. We will stand with our allies and are willing to partner with countries to deepen ties of trade and investment; science and technology; energy and development – efforts that can spark economic growth for all of our people, and stabilize democratic change. But such efforts depend upon a spirit of mutual interest and mutual respect. No government or company; no school or NGO will be confident working in a country where its people are endangered. For partnership to be effective, our citizens must be secure and our efforts must be welcomed.

First off, it is incredible that an American president feels the need to tell the world that we won’t “retreat from the world.” Even Obama understands just how appeasement-oriented our enemies believe he is. Can you imagine Ronald Reagan having to give that assurance?

Second, Obama says that America won’t retreat from the world – we’ll hurt our enemies, we’ll help our friends. But

But not if there’s no mutual interest or respect.

But not if our citizens aren’t secure and our efforts aren’t welcomed.

In other words, we’re the Jerry Maguire of the Middle East: help us help you. And if you won’t, why, we’ll just quit, just as we have in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This is the polar opposite of what we should be saying. We should be saying that not only won’t we be withdrawing from the world, we’ll be promoting American values abroad, and working with groups who understand the basic nature of liberty to ensure that people across the world are eventually able to enjoy those freedoms. We should be saying that our interests aren’t dependent on the feelings of others. We should be saying that if our partnerships aren’t effective, we will do our damndest to replace those partners with partners who will work with us.

But that’s not what Obama said, because he’s not comfortable with that. We have to be invited in, “welcomed.” We have to be loved, not feared. No wonder our embassies are burning.

Obama: Anti-Islam Rhetoric Must Be Rejected

12:12 pm in Uncategorized by Breitbart Feed

Today, President Barack Obama stated that negativity about Islam was a message that had to be rejected “by all who respect our common humanity.” Even as our ambassador in Libya is murdered by Islamists; even as Islamists in Egypt threaten Israel’s southern border and persecute Coptic Christians; even as Islamists in Iran threaten nuclear annihilation for the State of Israel; even as Islamists around the globe burn restaurants, attack police, and storm embassies, President Obama thinks that our “common humanity” requires us to reject anti-Islam material.

Here’s what he said:

Moreover, there will always be those that reject human progress – dictators who cling to power, corrupt interests that depend upon the status quo; and extremists who fan the flames of hate and division …. At times, the conflicts arise along the fault lines of faith, race or tribe; and often they arise from the difficulties of reconciling tradition and faith with the diversity and interdependence of the modern world. In every country, there are those who find different religious beliefs threatening; in every culture, those who love freedom for themselves must ask how much they are willing to tolerate freedom for others. That is what we saw play out the last two weeks, as a crude and disgusting video sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world. I have made it clear that the United States government had nothing to do with this video, and I believe its message must be rejected by all who respect our common humanity.

Notice the moral equivalence here. Those who reject human progress include “dictators who cling to power,” “corrupt interests that depend upon the status quo,” and “extremists who fan the flames of hate and division.” What about Islamists? What about terrorists? What about real extremists – not people who “fan the flames” of hate and division, but who actively support and promote violence?

President Obama’s focus on the anti-Islam YouTube video that supposedly sparked current unrest in the Middle East is myopic in the extreme. The message that has to be rejected by all who respect our common humanity is disrespect for free speech. Anti-Islam rhetoric didn’t cause the murder of our ambassador in Libya. Islamism did. In fact, Obama’s continued appeasement of Islamists by throwing a YouTube filmmaker under the bus for portraying Islam in a deeply negative light causes more violence than the actual YouTube video.

Obama complaines about cell phones, Apple wants to control your camera remotely…hmmm

U.S. President Speaks to U.N. About YouTube Video Posted in June by Southern Californian

These is what Obama said at the UN

“I know that not all countries in this body share this understanding of the protection of free speech,” said Obama. “Yet in 2012, at a time when anyone with a cell phone can spread offensive views around the world with the click of a button, the notion that we can control the flow of information is obsolete. The question, then, is how we respond. And on this we must agree: there is no speech that justifies mindless violence.

But behind the scene this is what is going on…

Apple wants to turn off iPhone cameras

Some of the newest technology out of Apple headquarters won’t be in tablet form or fit in your pocket. Rather, the computer gadget giants have filed a patent that will keep their customers from using the camera function on their own iPhones.

Apple has been working on a plan that will allow concert halls, sporting arenas and other venues to install infrared sensors that will detect iPhones going into camera mode and promptly disable the device’s ability to snap a shot or film a video. Explicitly, the patent states that it will use new technology to “capture a second image that includes an infrared signal with encoded data” and from there could shut-down a phone’s recording capability or else introduce a compulsory watermark.

So Apple says it is doing it for concerts, sporting events etc… how long before they start doing it remotely from Apple at protest or demonstrations? How long before the government says they need the off button to control your cell camera for “national security reasons”?

Still waiting in line for that iPhone 5? I’ll stick with my patent violation illegal Samsung Galaxy thanks…

Trust no one – especially corporation in bad with the government…. when was the last time you heard the liberals or the Obama administration villianizing BIG TECH? Yeah I don’t remember either… after all who does Big Brother need to watch you? Big Tech.

Sleep tight and keep that tape over the webcam.
