This video is fresh (for the public). It was made just six weeks ago in the Atlantic, just off Newport News (Hampton Roads), Virginia … These are the latest sea trials the F-35B on the USS Wasp. They were very successful, with 74 VL’s (Vertical Launch) and STO’s (short take offs) in a three week period.

The F-35B short takeoff/vertical landing variant completed ship suitability testing aboard the USS WASP (LHD-1) off the coast of Virginia in October 2011. Combined, F-35B test aircraft BF-2 and BF-4 accomplished 72 short takeoffs and 72 vertical landings during the three-week testing period.

The media and the program critics had predicted that we would burn holes in the deck and wash sailors overboard. Neither of which happened. You will notice a sailor standing on the bow of the ship as the jet rotates.

That was an intentional part of the sea trials. No catapult… No hook….It’s a new world out here! The shape and scope of warfare worldwide just changed.

General Dempsey…Please Stay Out Of It

General Dempsey…Please Stay Out Of It
by Gerald A. Honigman

The Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, communicates with Israel’s Lt. General Benny Gantz frequently over security issues. Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Afghanistan on August 19th, he stated that Israel and the United States view the Iranian nuclear threat differently. Their “clocks are ticking at different paces.” In fairness, the General also mentioned that Israel sees this more seriously “…because a nuclear Iran poses a threat to Israel’s very existence.”

The reality is that a nation some 3,000 miles wide, with over 300 million inhabitants, and two vast oceans separating it from its most-likely enemies should not be telling another nation (and one of its best friends and allies in the world)–which could fit some 34 times just into the state of Texas–what it ought to do to defend itself against would-be nuclear enemies who repeatedly call for its destruction and have already acted upon those deadly desires repeatedly via proxies and so forth.

Let’s be blunt about this…

Israel has never asked for any American blood to be spilt on its behalf. The Afghanistan Dempsey just visited has already cost much American life and limb–besides over a half trillion dollars to date and climbing–and things will likely be no better off there when we leave.

Similar life and limb have been extracted from America on behalf of Muslims in Iraq–and over one trillion dollars spent there as well.

Much is made of the 2.5 billion dollars in aid Israel receives each year. Do the math to find out how long it would take for Israel to receive the money that America has recently spent just in Iraq and Afghanistan (where Americans are killed by “friendly” forces let alone others)–not to mention the rest of the “Arab”/Muslim world…and with no thank you either.

While it’s close to a truism that nations don’t have friends, just interests, we should nevertheless strive for something better.

Israel does not deserve to constantly be placed in danger by its so-called friends. Yet, those in key leadership roles in America–especially in the State Department–have indeed done just that for over a half century now. I won’t get into this nasty issue here, but there is solid documentation supporting this claim…lots of it. Let’s just say that recent “leaks” regarding potential Israeli plans involving flight paths, Azerbaijani bases, and so forth have many past precedents–along with many other types of nastiness as well.

Some like to claim that America pays the price and is despised in the Muslim world because of Israel. So, for example, all would allegedly be well and Iranian pistachios and caviar would flow freely to American markets if only Israel did not exist. The reality is quite different.

For the mullahs, America is indeed the Big Satan and Israel the little one. In Iran and elsewhere in the supremacist “Arab”/Muslim world, Israel is hated because it shares the values and exemplifies the best of the West–even though over half of its Jewish population originated in the Muslim East. They are the other side of the refugee story no one ever hears of.

Israel is hated because it is on the front lines of an age-old subjugating mindset which still dominates Islamic long-term thinking in the region…the conquest of the Dar ul-Islam over the Dar al-Harb. What’s worse, of all the dhimmis, the “kilab yahud”–Jew dogs–are despised the most. A proud, successful, independent state where such folks have control over their own destiny is simply too much to bear…

Having fled in the 7th century C.E. from his Meccan enemies to the Jewish date palm oasis in Medina (founded centuries earlier by Judeans fleeing wars for independence from Rome), after the Jews did not accept Muhammad’s religio-political claims to leadership, he turned on them with a vengeance. He had already made the direction of prayer for his followers facing Jersualem to win the Jews’ support. Before long, with the exception of Yemen, the Arabian Peninsula would be made Judenrein…

So much for Arab claims that all was allegedly good between them and the Jews before the latter, in the modern era, dared to ask for the same thing in one tiny, resurrected state that Arabs demand for themselves in almost two dozen others (which they conquered and forcibly Arabized from mostly non-Arab peoples).

Okay, back to Iran…

General Dempsey is an honorable and intelligent man.

But, on matters concerning the very existence of another, millennially-persecuted and still much targeted people, both he and the country he represents need to go beyond the all-too-common no friends, just interests model.

America has gotten involved in conflicts for reasons less pressing than what it faces with the potential of a nuclear Iran. If Washington chooses not to act decisively itself, the least it can do is not force Israel’s current six million Jews to face the prospects of what befell another six million not that long ago.

Arizona’s Luke Air Force Base gets F-35 mission

Glendale officials say the Department of Defense has chosen Luke Air Force Base for the new training center for F-35 fighter jets.

“The selection of Luke as the training base for the F-35 ensures our long term viability of our mission of training the world’s greatest fighter pilots, which we’ve been doing at Luke for 7 decades,” said Colonel Robert Webb with Luke’s 56th Fighter Wing said at a news conference.

“It was designed from the ground up to be able to penetrate enemy air defenses and provide advanced capabilities and a complimentary role to the F-22.”

The 71-year-old base in west Glendale was competing with bases in Tucson, New Mexico and Idaho for the F-35 mission.

City officials say the Air Force will station 72 F-35s for the training of both U.S. and foreign pilots.

Luke has long been the training ground for F-16 pilots. The F-35 is intended to eventually replace the aging F-16s and A-10s.

Glendale officials say Luke could receive up to $125 million in federal funds for construction-related projects and the F-35s could arrive as early as next year.

Statement by U.S. Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl

This is a proud day for the State of Arizona. We are pleased with the Air Force’s decision to station three F-35 training squadrons at Luke Air Force Base, with the potential to add three more squadrons in future years. This decision demonstrates that Luke AFB will remain the Air Force’s premier pilot training facility and underscores the unparalleled training opportunities offered in Arizona at the Barry M. Goldwater Range.

We welcome the Secretary of the Air Force’s commitment that, in addition to the three F-35 training squadrons, the Air Force will maintain both U.S. and foreign F-16 pilot training at Luke AFB through 2023. This decision is consistent with the Air Force’s goal to leverage existing capacity at Luke AFB to the maximum extent. We also received assurances that the Air Force will station these 72 F-35As at Luke AFB regardless of the status of purchases by partner nations.

This decision is the direct result of the decades-long and ongoing commitment by the State of Arizona and the communities and support organizations around Luke to a mutually beneficial relationship between the Air Force and the people of Arizona. In particular, we commend the “Luke Forward” campaign, which was developed by the West Valley Partners and Fighter Country Partnership to generate awareness and support for the positive impacts that the Air Force’s next generation strike fighter will bring to our state. The Air Force specifically noted in the Record of Decision the impact of proactive efforts by the state and local community to manage noise concerns and to ensure compatible growth on land surrounding Luke AFB. We want to say thank you to the people of Arizona for supporting this vital mission.

The strong support of our communities and the availability of unmatched training resources makes Arizona the favorite to receive additional F-35 squadrons. We will continue to advocate for the vitality of the active military and Guard installations in Arizona as the best choice for this new generation of Air Force aircraft.

Russian Military Doctrine

12:12 pm in army paratroopers, atlantic treaty organization, defense doctrine, Editorials, Featured, Foreign Affairs, legal mechanisms, military doctrine, military influence, north atlantic treaty organization, regional conflicts, scale warfare, spotlight, violent solutions by Vassilios Damiras

Russia still spends huge amount in defense issues. On February 5, 2010, the then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed the new defense doctrine, which established brand new guidelines for defense and security matters. The new Military Doctrine vividly explains the threat environment that the Russian Federation (RF) is facing in the twenty-first century. Furthermore, it explains that Russia is not threatened by an imminent global war. The main concern is asymmetrical threats. It declares also that the Russian Federation has military, diplomatic, international-legal, information, economic and other means at its disposal to meet its strategic objectives. Moreover it states:

In the new Military Doctrine, world development today is characterized by the weakening of ideological confrontation; the reduction in the level of economic, political, and military influence of certain individual states and alliances; and the military influence of certain individual states and alliances; and the rising influence of other states that seek all-embracing domination; multipolarity; and globalization of various process.

Many regional conflicts remain unresolved. The tendencies toward violent solutions of these conflicts, including those bordering the Russian Federation, remains. The existing structure (system) of international security, including international legal mechanisms does not provide for the equal security of all states.

However, in spite of the lowering of the probability of the unleashing against the Russian Federation of large scale warfare with the employment of conventional means and nuclear weapons, in a number of directions military dangers to the Russian Federation have increased.

The new Military Doctrine lists both external and internal threats. In external issues Russia views with suspicion the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Nonetheless, allows some collaboration on asymmetrical threats. In May 2012, twenty-two Russian army paratroopers came to the State of Colorado for two weeks military training with the 10th Special Forces Group at Fort Carson, a military base outside Colorado Springs. The training was very successful. Russian plays the good and bad cop regarding NATO and the United States. The Russian administration tries to balance a sensitive relation with both entities to benefit Russian national interest.

The new Military Doctrine does not introduce preemptive strikes but speaks utilizing nuclear weapons as deterrence. In addition, it introduces the improvement of collaboration among branches of Armed Forces, combat arms of troops (forces), and other troops. It ensures the integration and coordinated development of various systems of technical logistical and other forms of support for the Russian Armed Forces and new ways of military training and education.

Also, Russia wants to have a strong naval presence across the globe. This desire originates since the epoch that Romanovs ruled Russia. In the course of history Russia and the Soviet Union tried three times to create a powerful blue water naval force-before First World War, in the late 1930s before Second World War, and during the second half of the Cold War Period (from the 1960s until the late 1980s). In each and every case the plans were abandoned, because in the end were not crucial or viable for the existence of the Russian defense. Currently, Russia wants to have a naval presence in the Middle East and in the eastern Mediterranean Sea to monitor the evolution of the Arab Spring revolt and the maritime developments regarding natural gas exploration between Greece, Cyprus and Israel.

On internal security issues, the new Military Doctrine gives more power and new ways to the Russian government to use the military and fight asymmetrical threats inside Russia. Since 1991, Russia fights the Chechen separatists. President Vladimir Putin was successful to install a pro-Russian government in Chechnya. Moreover, Moscow has decisively disabled the Chechen rebel/separatist movement, although sporadic terrorist activity still appears in Northern Caucasus. Thus, the Russian civil and military leaders want to adopt new ways and techniques to fight terrorism. The ethnic threat from Chechnya is extremely serious and President Putin wants to deal in a decisively manner.

Russia under the new Military Doctrine wants to appear a major player in the global arena. As the historical evidences clearly indicate Russian military concerns are not new but originate since the era of the Romanov dynasty. Lately, President Putin uses the Orthodox religion as an instrument to unite under the Russian flag all the Orthodox Balkan populations. The future will show Russian military position in the globe.

SEALS VERSION OF BATTLE AT BIN LADEN COMPOUND

Upset by the official account BY THE WHITE HOUSE, US Navy Seals commandos reveal the truth of the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden, nicknames and all.Osama Bin Laden was killed within 90 seconds of the US Navy Seals landing in his compound and not after a protracted gun battle, according to the first account by the men who carried out the raid. The operation was so clinical that only 12 bullets were fired. The Seals have spoken out because they were angered at the version given by politicians, which they see as portraying them as cold-blooded murderers on a “kill mission”. They were also shocked that President Barack Obama announced Bin Laden’s death on television the same evening, rendering useless much of the intelligence they had seized.

Chuck Pfarrer, a former commander of Seal Team 6, which conducted the operation, has interviewed many of those who took part for a book, Seal Target Geronimo, to be published in the US this week.

The Seals’ own accounts differ from the White House version, which gave the impression that Bin Laden was killed at the end of the operation rather than in its opening seconds. Pfarrer insists Bin Laden would have been captured had he surrendered.

“There isn’t a politician in the world who could resist trying to take credit for getting Bin Laden but it devalued the ‘intel’ and gave time for every other Al-Qaeda leader to scurry to another bolthole,” said Pfarrer. “The men who did this and their valorous act deserve better. It’s a pretty shabby way to treat these guys.”

The first hint of the mission came in January last year when the team’s commanding officer was called to a meeting at the headquarters of joint special operations command. The meeting was held in a soundproof bunker three stories below ground with his boss, Admiral William McRaven, and a CIA officer.

They told him a walled compound in Pakistan had been under surveillance for a couple of weeks. They were certain a high-value individual was inside and needed a plan to present to the president.

It had to be someone important. “So is this Bert or Ernie?” he asked. The Seals’ nicknames for Bin Laden and his deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri are a reference to two Muppets in Sesame Street , one tall and thin and the other short and fat. “We have a voice print,” said the CIA officer, “and we’re 60% or 70% certain it’s our guy.” McRaven added that a reconnaissance satellite had measured the target’s shadow. “Over 6ft tall.”

When McRaven added they would use Ghost Hawk helicopters, the team leader had no doubt. “These are the most classified, sophisticated stealth helicopters ever developed,” said Pfarrer. “They are kept in locked hangars and fly so quiet we call it ‘whisper mode’.”

Over the next couple of months a plan was hatched. A mock-up of the compound was built at Tall Pines, an army facility in a national forest somewhere in the eastern US.

Four reconnaissance satellites were placed in orbit over the compound, sending back video and communications intercepts. A tall figure seen walking up and down was named “the Pacer”.

Obama gave the go-ahead and Seal Team 6, known as the Jedi, was deployed to Afghanistan. The White House cancelled plans to provide air cover using jet fighters, fearing this might endanger relations with Pakistan.

Sending in the Ghost Hawks without air cover was considered too risky so the Seals had to use older Stealth Hawks. A Prowler electronic warfare aircraft from the carrier USS Carl Vinson was used to jam Pakistan’s radar and create decoy targets.

Operation Neptune’s Spear was initially planned for April 30 but bad weather delayed it until May 1, a moonless night. The commandos flew on two Stealth Hawks, codenamed Razor 1 and 2, followed by two Chinooks five minutes behind, known as “Command Bird” and the “gun platform”. On board, each Seal was clad in body armour and nightvision goggles and equipped with laser targets, radios and sawn-off M4 rifles. They were expecting up to 30 people in the main house, including Bin Laden and three of his wives, two sons, Khalid and Hamza, his courier, Abu Ahmed al- Kuwaiti, four bodyguards and a number of children. At 56 minutes past midnight the compound came into sight and the code “; Palm Beach ” signaled three minutes to landing.

Razor 1 hovered above the main house, a three-story building where Bin Laden lived on the top floor. Twelve Seals abseiled the 5ft-6ft down onto the roof and then jumped to a third-floor patio, where they kicked in the windows and entered.

The first person the Seals encountered was a terrified woman, Bin Laden’s third wife, Khaira, who ran into the hall. Blinded by a
searing white strobe light they shone at her, she stumbled back. A Seal grabbed her by the arm and threw her to the floor.

Bin Laden’s bedroom was along a short hall. The door opened; he popped out and then slammed the door shut. “Geronimo, Geronimo, Geronimo,” radioed one Seal, meaning “eyes on target”.

At the same time lights came on from the floor below and Bin Laden’s son Khalid came running up the stairs towards the Seals. He was shot dead.

Two Seals kicked in Bin Laden’s door. The room, they later recalled, “smelt like old clothing, like a guest bedroom in a grandmother’s house”. Inside was the Al-Qaeda leader and his youngest wife, Amal, who was screaming as he pushed her in front of him.

“No, no, don’t do this!” she shouted as her husband reached across the king-size bed for his AK-47 assault rifle. The Seals reacted
instantly, firing in the same second. One round thudded into the mattress. The other, aimed at Bin Laden’s head, grazed Amal in the calf. As his hand reached for the gun, they each fired again: one shot hit his breastbone, the other his skull, killing him instantly and blowing out the back of his head.

Meanwhile Razor 2 was heading for the guesthouse, a low, shoebox-like building, where Bin Laden’s courier, Kuwaiti, and his brother lived.

As the helicopter neared, a door opened and two figures appeared, one waving an AK-47. This was Kuwaiti. In the moonless night he could see nothing and lifted his rifle, spraying bullets wildly.

He did not see the Stealth Hawk. On board someone shouted, “Bust him!”, and a sniper fired two shots. Kuwaiti was killed, as was the person behind him, who turned out to be his wife. Also on board were a CIA agent, a Pakistani- American who would act as interpreter, and a sniffer dog called Karo, wearing dog body armour and goggles.

Within two minutes the Seals from Razor 2 had cleared the guesthouse and removed the women and children.

They then ran to the main house and entered from the ground floor, checking the rooms. One of Bin Laden’s bodyguards was waiting with his AK-47. The Seals shot him twice and he toppled over.

Five minutes into the operation the command Chinook landed outside the compound, disgorging the commanding officer and more men. They blasted through the compound wall and rushed in.

The commander made his way to the third floor, where Bin Laden’s body lay on the floor face up. Photographs were taken, and the commander called on his satellite phone to headquarters with the words: “Geronimo Echo KIA” — Bin Laden enemy killed in action.

“This was the first time the White House knew he was dead and it was probably 20 minutes into the raid,” said Pfarrer.

A sample of Bin Laden’s DNA was taken and the body was bagged. They kept his rifle. It is now mounted on the wall of their team room at their headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia , alongside photographs of a dozen colleagues killed in action in the past 20 years.

At this point things started to go wrong. Razor 1 took off but the top secret “green unit” that controls the electronics failed. The aircraft went into a spin and crashed tail-first into the compound.

The Seals were alarmed, thinking it had been shot down, and several rushed to the wreckage. The crew climbed out, shaken but unharmed.

The commanding officer ordered them to destroy Razor 2, to remove the green unit, and to smash the avionics. They then laid explosive charges.

They loaded Bin Laden’s body onto the Chinook along with the cache of intelligence in plastic bin bags and headed toward the USS Carl Vinson. As they flew off they blew up Razor 2. The whole operation had taken 38 minutes.

The following morning White House officials announced that the helicopter had crashed as it arrived, forcing the Seals to abandon plans to enter from the roof. A photograph of the situation room showed a shocked Hillary Clinton, the secretary of state, with her hand to her mouth.

Why did they get it so wrong? What they were watching was live video but it was shot from 20,000ft by a drone circling overhead and relayed in real time to the White House and Leon Panetta, the CIA director, in Langley. The Seals were not wearing helmet cameras, and those watching in Washington had no idea what was happening inside the buildings.

“They don’t understand our terminology, so when someone said the ‘insertion helicopter’ has crashed, they assumed it meant on entry,” said Pfarrer.

What infuriated the Seals, according to Pfarrer, was the description of the raid as a kill mission. “I’ve been a Seal for 30 years and I never heard the words ‘kill mission’,” he said. “It’s a Beltway [Washington insider’s] ]fantasy word. If it was a kill mission you don’t need Seal Team 6; you need a box of hand grenades.”

What’s Next for the Middle East and Egypt under Mohammed Morsi ?

By Scott Rohter, June 2012

Writing for my local newspaper’s editorial board a seasoned reporter wrote that the United States holds some kind of leverage over Egypt’s ruling military, and that we should not fail to use it. The editorial is the official position of the only newspaper in my city. The Op-Ed was written after the recent elections in Egypt, and the ruling military’s response to those free and fair elections. The Newspaper couldn’t be further from the truth! Nor could the particular response that its editorial board advocates America should take to events happening in Egypt right now, be more wrong, or more detrimental to peace in the Middle East! Let me explain…

The reporter stated that the United States should exert its leverage by threatening the Egyptian military with the loss of American foreign aid if they didn’t back off and allow the Muslim Brotherhood to take over the entire country. The Muslim Brotherhood is a terrorist organization. They won the Egyptian parliamentary elections, and their most radical Islamist candidate won the most recent presidential election. That is why the Egyptian military stepped in to intervene, in order to prevent a complete takeover of their country by extremists.

It was by initially threatening to cut off financial assistance to Mubarak’s regime over a year ago, that we undercut the government of Hosni Mubarak in the first place, and allowed the so called Egyptian revolution to occur. That is how we allowed the Islamist Revolution, or the so called “Arab Spring” to spread from Tunisia to Egypt! That is how Barack Obama enabled the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood to gain a foothold in Egyptian politics! Now the liberal newspaper in my city thinks that the United States should just allow the Muslim Brotherhood to go from a gaining a strong foothold to having a complete stranglehold!

OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso — The U.S. military is expanding its secret intelligence operations across Africa, establishing a network of small air bases to spy on terrorist hideouts from the fringes of the Sahara to jungle terrain along the equator, according to documents and people involved in the project.

At the heart of the surveillance operations are small, unarmed turboprop aircraft disguised as private planes. Equipped with hidden sensors that can record full-motion video, track infrared heat patterns, and vacuum up radio and cellphone signals, the planes refuel on isolated airstrips favored by African bush pilots, extending their effective flight range by thousands of miles.

Van T. Barfoot’s Medal of Honor

7:07 am in barfoot, congressional medal of honor, foot flagpole, german tanks, gun positions, neighborhood association, News Feed, old veteran, prisoners of war, suburban virginia, twenty five years by TPTsubmissions

Van T. Barfoot’s Medal of Honor

Remember the guy who wouldn’t take the flag down?

You might remember a news story several months ago about a crotchety
old man who defied his homeowners association and refused to take down
the flagpole on his property and the large flag that flew on it. Now you can
find out who, exactly, that old man was.

On June 15, 1919, Van T. Barfoot was born in Edinburg — probably
didn’t make much news back then.
Twenty-five years later, on May 23, 1944, near Carano , Italy ,
Van T. Barfoot, who had enlisted in the US Army in
1940, set out to flank German machine gun positions from which fire
was coming down on his fellow soldiers. He advanced through a
minefield, took out three enemy machine gun positions and returned
with 17 prisoners of war.

If that wasn’t enough for a day’s work, he later took on and destroyed
three German tanks sent to retake the machine gun positions.

That probably didn’t make much news either, given the scope of the
war, but it did earn Van T. Barfoot, who retired as a colonel after
also serving in Korea and Vietnam , a Congressional Medal of Honor.

What did make news was a neighborhood association’s quibble with
how the 90-year-old veteran chose to fly the American flag
outside his suburban Virginia home. Seems the rules said a flag could be
flown on a house-mounted bracket, but, for decorum, items such
as Barfoot’s 21-foot flagpole were unsuitable.

He had been denied a permit for the pole, erected it anyway and
was facing court action if he didn’t take it down. Since the story made
national TV, the neighborhood association has rethought its position
and agreed to indulge this old hero who dwells among them.

“In the time I have left I plan to continue to fly the American flag
without interference,”  Barfoot told The Associated Press. As well he
should.
And if any of his neighbors still takes a notion to contest him, they
might want to read his Medal of Honor citation. It indicates he’s not
real good at backing down.

Van T. Barfoot’s Medal of Honor citation:

This 1944 Medal of Honor citation, listed with the National Medal of Honor
Society, is for Second Lieutenant Van T. Barfoot, 157th Infantry,
45th Infantry:

If you got this email and didn’t pass it on – guess what – you deserve to
get your butt kicked! I sent this to you, because I didn’t want to get MY butt kicked.
WE ONLY LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE…
BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE! AND, BECAUSE OF OLD MEN LIKE VAN BARFOOT!
Obviously he is not related to anybody in congress!~!!

VanT. Barfoot died at the age of 92 on 2 March 2012.
May this great American now rest in peace.

Fallen But Never Forgotten

12:43 pm in americas mighty heros, celebrate memorial day, Debbie lee, happy memorialdDay, Marc Alan Lee, memorial day, memorial day weekend, military heroes, picnics, spotlight by TPT Admin

Memorial Day weekend has kicked-off and people all over the nation are jumping into their cars, RVs, and Motor homes to take advantage of the three day weekend. Everything is packed and ready to go after weeks of focused planning. Many have anticipated this weekend for months and planned for camp-outs, parties, fun at the lake or beaches, and just a little R&R.

For those who choose to stay home you can take advantage of the “Huge Blow Out Sales” on everything from mattresses to cars, oh and don’t forgot all those sales at the market for that big Bar-B-que. Many kids are cheering as this marked the end of their school year and the swimming pools are opening for the season.
It seems every ad in the newspaper, commercial on TV or banner reminds us to “Celebrate Memorial Day” or wishes you Happy Memorial Day! The majority of Americans don’t even find those statements conflicting, or understand what Memorial Day is really about.
Celebrate….Memorial??????

Let’s check the dictionary….A memorial is an object which serves as a focus, for memory of something, usually a person (who has died) or an event, day a unit of time. Memorial Day was always the 30th of May until 1968 when Congress changed it to the last Monday in May so to allow for a three day weekend, now known as Memorial Day weekend. As a nation we have set aside this time to reflect (to think seriously) and remember (to recall to the mind by an act or effort of memory) our brave military heroes who gave their life in combat. This requires effort and serious thoughts not celebration and happiness.

As I child I remember getting together with family for picnics or bar-b-ques. We looked forward to camping trips or trips to the lake. There were a few trips I remember to the cemetery but it was to place flowers on deceased relative’s graves who had never served in the military. I thought Memorial Day was to remember loved ones who had died. I wasn’t taught and therefore I missed the opportunity to teach my children that Memorial Day is to remember those who paid the ultimate price. Freedom comes with a price, it isn’t free.

It really was my son, Marc Alan Lee who taught me about Memorial Day.Please take a moment to watch this tribute video.

I have been on a campaign for years to Reclaim Memorial Day and educate and challenge people about what Memorial Day is really about. Many well meaning people still choose to make their speeches or advertising about thanking and honoring our troops on Memorial Day. As a nation that’s why we have Veterans Day and Armed Forces Day to do that. Personally I’ve made it my mission to honor and thank the troops everyday, but our focus, our speeches, our thoughts of remembrance are to be on our brave warriors who gave their final breath defending everyone in America and what we stand for.

If you are a Gold Star family member everyday is Memorial Day for you, not a day goes by that we don’t remember our son, daughter, mother, father, brother, sister, or spouse who gave all of their tomorrows so we could have today. We remember them with pride and pain.
I don’t have to focus or use effort to remember Marc’s smell, his laughter, his grin, his hugs, his playful antics and sense of humor, his voice or who he was and how he impacted every life he touched. He was a gift that God gave me for 28 years and I was blessed that God picked me to be his mother. That young man did more in his 28 years than most do if they live to an old age. Marc successfully completed his mission and I know where he is and I will see him again one day.

I founded America’s Mighty Warriors in response to Marc’s last letter home and our mission is to honor and support our troops and the families of the fallen. I understand Freedom is not Free! I will be that voice for our troops and those who have laid down their weapons and left their boots behind and have no voice.

Have we as a nation placed our priority on fun and self fulfillment for Memorial Day weekend and forgotten our fallen heroes who died in combat?

Not only will I be remembering my son Marc whose name means Mighty Warrior, but I will be remembering every one of America’s Mighty Warriors who gave their lives, no matter what conflict, what branch of military they served in, how old, married or single, enlisted or officer. I will remember their sacrifice and their families and will live my life in a way that would honor them and make them proud!
I’m challenging you to make the effort this Memorial Day Weekend and REMEMBER those who died so you could have the freedoms you have. EDUCATE yourself, your family, and those in your sphere of influence as to what this weekend is really about and then HONOR our fallen heroes and their families left behind. Attend a memorial event near you, stop and decorate the grave of a fallen hero, watch a movie or read about a fallen war hero, begin conversations reflecting and remembering, find a Gold Star family or teammate of a fallen servicemember and thank them and show your gratitude and remember to pray for them.
I remember when I was driving from Phoenix to San Diego for Marc’s funeral and we were stopped in traffic because of a bad wreck that had shut down the freeway. I had an envelope with pictures of Marc for the service and remembered looking at people in the cars next to me. Their lives were going on normally and had no clue that my son had just given his life in Ramadi and ours would never be the same. I had this urge to get out of the car and show them Marc’s picture and tell them his heroic story.I remembering questioning my thoughts, how weird, I though to myself. Since then I have heard that from so many Gold Star families they feel the same, we just don’t want you to forget our loved ones. As a nation we owe it to our fallen heroes, they gave it all for us.
”A nation who forgets it’s defenders will itself be forgotten.”

Remember those that paid…

8:16 pm in FYI by AWG

This weekend millions of Americans will gather to grill, swim and enjoy the company of friends and family – please take a minute, just one minute and remember those that have paid the ultimate price for your freedom, the freedom all across this land and the families of those that have fallen.

I salute all the fallen of all the branches of the American armed services – you’ll understand if I’m a little partial to one.

Thank you and Semper Fi

U.S. soldiers forced to wear U.N. logo?

In the 1990s, conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly wrote a moving description of the plight of U.S. Army Specialist E-4 Michael G. New, a medic in the Third Infantry Division who was drummed out of the military because he refused to wear the uniform of the United Nations.

“When American soldiers were killed over Iraq,” she wrote, “Vice President Al Gore told the widows and orphans of those men that ‘they died in the service of the United Nations.’ That wasn’t a slip of the tongue; his words reveal the Clinton administration’s plan to use our armed forces as U.N. mercenaries all over the world at the whim of U.N. bureaucrats.”

Schlafly said New had “raised the flag of patriotism against the Clinton-Gore goal.”

“Michael New’s trial is our battle, if we care about America,” she wrote.

What if New was right all along, and the order to don the U.N. emblems was unlawful, as he argued throughout his dispute with his commanding officers at his court-martial and throughout the appeals process?

It would mean that prosecutors in the Clinton administration withheld exculpatory evidence, deceived a judge in the case and misled defense counsel to stamp out what could have been a rebellion against illegal orders to serve under the banner of the international political group.

That’s the very assertion in a new and unprecedented appeal to the U.S. Army Court of Criminal Appeals in a “Petition for Extraordinary Relief in the Nature of a Writ of Error.”

Case for the U.S. Military Supporting The Republic of South Sudan

By Alan Kornman

On July 9, 2011 the Republic of South Sudan became the worldʼs newest country. On
April 19, 2012 North Sudanʼs Islamic President Omar al-Bashir declared war on The
Republic of South Sudan.

President Barak Hussein Obama will need to make a choice if he and America will stand
by the North Sudanese Islamist President Omar al-Bashir or the The Democratic
Republic of South Sudan.
SudaneseOnline reports, on April 24, 2012, “Al-Bashir…reiterated that there will be no
return to talking with South Sudan unless its ruling Sudan Peopleʼs Liberation
Movement (SPLM) is gone.”One of us has to go” he said before adding that our
“dialogue with these people will be through the gun because they only understand the
language of the gun.”
In the same article al-Bashir says, “I direct the army to restore [our] rights and repulse
any aggression from the Sudan Peopleʼs Liberation Army [SPLA] of the south on any
inch of the country and at any time” Bashir declared while addressing dozens of
ululating Sudanese troopers at the station of Martyr Al-Fadil in Heglig on Monday.”

President Barak Obama called for an end to violence which fell on deaf ears. President
al-Bashirʼs call for Jihad against the Republic of South Sudan has been publicly spoken
as per Islamic doctrine therefore, it is only a matter of time before a full fledged Jihadist
war breaks out against the democratic South. It is not a matter of “if” but “when.”

Election Issue For November
The United States, has a long history of defending Democratic governments when
under threat of military attack. The free and Democratic Republic of South Sudan
deserves the military protection of the United States Government if and when they
request it.
The NY Times March 17, 2012 ran a story that actor George Clooney, Rep. James
Moran of Virginian, were among a dozen protestors arrested in front of the Sudanese
Embassy in Washington. Clooney and others were concerned the Sudanese conflict
would cause, “a real humanitarian disaster” and a possible famine if aid does not reach
the refugees.
George Clooney and friends should be commended for being the voice of the voiceless
Sudanese refugees. However, Clooney and his liberal friends are missing the cause of
the humanitarian crisis and what is necessary to stop the problem at the source. The
source of the problem is the Islamist State of North Sudan and an Islamic doctrine
rooted in the doctrine of Sacred Space. Clooney and Rep. Moran should read the next
paragraph very closely. The doctrine of Sacred Space is one of those secrets about
Islamic doctrine Islamic leadership does not want the infidel Americans to know about.

The Doctrine Of Sacred Space
Clare Lopez, senior fellow at the Center For Security Policy, has stated the Islamist
State of North Sudanʼs motivations for war against the Republic of South Sudan could
be founded in the Islamic doctrine called The doctrine of Sacred Space. The book
Shariah The Threat to America, Team B2, p.91 explains Waqf this way.
“Land already conquered and occupied by Muslims as well as any space ever gained in
the past for the forces of the faith are waqf and considered sacred ground, endowed by
Allah to the…Muslim people forever…If ever such space has been lost, it is the duty of
all Muslims to regain it, by Jihad, if necessary.”
In the case of South Sudan Clare Lopez has taken the Waqf concept and aptly applied it
to The Doctrine of Sacred Space. Ms. Lopez states, “The Doctrine of Sacred Space is
a derivative concept…that can be understood from Islamic authoritiesʼ statements,
fatwas, and action.” Followers of Islam take very seriously retaking land they had once
conquered – Allah commands it and Muslims follow without question, debate, or
hesitation.

Clare Lopez concludes her analysis with, “I would say simply that North Sudan fights
South Sudan for Jihad. That’s what it is. The concept of waqf or Sacred Space is part of
why the Islamic North still fights the Christian South even after they’ve formally won
independence, and are accepted by the international system. Jihad is what motivated
North Sudan from the beginning, even when South Sudan was still part of the overall
country – it was Arab Muslim north vs Christian/animist south. As scholar Samuel
Huntington said, “Islam has bloody borders and bloody innards, too.”
All diplomatic efforts for peace and coexistence by the South Sudanese are only
temporary and non-binding in the world view of the followers of Islam, including Omar
al-Bashir. The plot of land called The Republic of South Sudan is sacred land and was
given to the Islamic North by Allah. The Islamic North Sudan will try and reclaim the
South Sudan as Allahʼs divine law instructs them to do.
For President Barak Hussein Obama to publicly call for a peaceful outcome is
disingenuous at best and outright deception at worst. On February 27, 2007 speaking
to Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times, President Obama said, “The Muslim call to
prayer is one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.” Kristof goes on to report
Obama recited the Muslim call to prayer “with a first-class [Arabic] accent.”

The Muslim call to prayer translation is:
Allah is the greatest (4x)
I bear witness that there is no God but Allah (2x)
I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah (2x)
Come to salat (ritual prayer) (2x)
Come to success (2x)
Allah is greatest (2x)
There is no God but Allah
President Obama in the Kristof interview displays a conceptual understanding of Islamic
doctrine and theology. It is only logical that President Obama would understand the
concept of Islamic Sacred Land because it to has been around as long as the call to
prayer has been in existence. As a self proclaimed Christian President Barak Obama
with his knowledge of Islamic doctrine should know the serious situation the South
Sudanese are in.
The Question is will President Obama side with the Islamic North Sudan or the free
Republic of South Sudan. Or will President Obama do nothing and force the Republic
of South Sudan to succeed or be slaughtered as America once again sits on the
sidelines.

United States Disengagement
The United States had stayed on the sidelines since 2005 during the Muslim versus
Christian Sudanese civil war that resulted in over 2 million deaths. After a long and
bloody conflict the Christian dominated Republic of South Sudan created a free
Democratic Republic all on their own without any significant United States help
economically and or militarily.

The Christian dominated South Sudanese spilled considerable amounts of blood to win
their freedom and liberty from the Islamist North. The American military did not have to
win the hearts and minds of the South Sudanese by planting the seed of freedom and
liberty as our Rules of Engagement are being practiced wherever American forces are
stationed in Islamic countries. The South Sudanese embraced the Western concept of
Freedom and Liberty due to one overriding factor – they were not slaves to Allah.

Why The United States is Failing in the Middle East
The United States is currently executing a counter insurgency (COIN) in just about
every Islamist country in the Middle East. The objective of COIN is to win the hearts
and minds of the Islamic world either militarily or culturally. The conventional wisdom
President Bush stated with COIN after 9/11 was good intentioned but fatally flawed.
President Bush believed that all men and women would embrace a government model
that was free versus non-free every time. President Bush may not have had a clear
understanding that the followers of Islam believe the divinely inspired Qurʼan and
Shariah Islamiyya (Islamic Law) is superior to ALL man made laws including our
Constitution and Bill of Rights.

President Bush believed in pluralism without taking into account a political system that
believes their set of laws were inspired by Allah. Islamic doctrine and theology teaches
the Qurʼan is the exact word of Allah down to the very last letter. Muslims believe Allah
transmitted the Qurʼan to the Angel Gabriel who transmitted it directly to Muhammadʼs
ears uncorrupted by man.

The Muslim believes the Qurʼan is divinely inspired.

The practical application of the Qurʼan and Life of Muhammad is the Shariah Islamiyya (Islamic Law).
Islamic doctrine teaches all other religious books and governments have been corrupted
by man and are subservient to the divinely inspired texts in the Qurʼan. Most Muslims believe our Constitution and Bill of Rights are flawed and secondary to the divinely inspired Qurʼan. Know your enemy Know thyself and you will win 1000 battles – Sun Tzu was right then and he is right in 2012.
Republic of South Sudan Constitution
The South Sudanese wrote their Constitution following the political ideology found in the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.

The Republic of South Sudan Constitution states in part:
• South Sudan is governed on the basis of a decentralized democratic system and is an
all embracing homeland for its people. It is a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-lingual,
multi-religious and multi-racial entity where such diversities peacefully co-exist.
• South Sudan is founded on justice, equality, respect for human dignity and
advancement of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
• This Constitution derives its authority from the will of the people and shall be the
supreme law of the land. It shall have a binding force on all persons, institutions,
organs and agencies of government throughout the Country.
• English shall be the official working language in the Republic of South Sudan, as well
as the language of instruction at all levels of education.
• Religion and State shall be separate.
• All religions shall be treated equally and religion or religious beliefs shall not be used
for divisive purposes.
• The Bill of Rights is a covenant among the people of South Sudan and between them
and their government at every level and a commitment to respect and promote human
rights and fundamental freedoms enshrined in this Constitution; it is the cornerstone of
social justice, equality and democracy.
• Every person has the inherent right to life, dignity and the integrity of his or her person
which shall be protected by law; no one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his or her life.
• Slavery and slave trade in all form are prohibited. No person shall be held in slavery or
servitude.
• An accused person is presumed to be innocent until his or her guilt is proved
according to the law.
• Every citizen shall have the right to the freedom of expression, reception and
dissemination of information, publication, and access to the press without prejudice to
public order, safety or morals as prescribed by law.
• Every person shall have the right to acquire or own property as regulated by law.
• South Sudan shall have a decentralized system of government with the following
levels:
• The National Government shall have the following organs:
the Legislature; the Executive; and the Judiciary.
The Republic of South Sudanʼs Constitution is refreshingly similar to ours.

Think Africa Press writes, “In 2003, the conservative Heritage Foundation set out a
more detailed blueprint for what this “active participation” might look like. Their report,
ʻUS Military Assistance to Africa: A Better Solutionʼ, advises the creation of a US military
command to advance security objectives in the region, co-ordinate anti-terror
campaigns and, crucially, encourage “prudent management of the continentʼs vast
natural and mineral resources”. African oil, it argues, is a geostrategic imperative – in
that it provides 25% of all US oil – which can only be secured through a systematic
military presence. The US therefore “must not be afraid to employ its forces decisively
when vital national interests are threatened.”

In 1979 when Jimmy Carter facilitated the ousting of the Shah of Iran in favor of the
Mullahs resulted in the re-birth of the Islamic crusades against the West. The Iranians
have been bankrolling terrorism around the world and are themselves very close to
building a nuclear device with a sophisticated delivery system – Thanks Jimmy.
Today President Barak Hussein Obama has ushered in an era of Islamic rage called the
Arab Spring. If you take what Jimmy Carter did back in 1979 with Iran and put it on
steroids you have the false Arab “Muslim Brotherhood” Spring.

Instead of embracing countries like the Democratic Republic of South Sudan President
Obama has been embracing The Muslim Brotherhood and all their affiliated anti
American groups. The Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Hezbollah, etc… have one thing in
common, they will instill Shariah Islamiyaa on their own fellow Muslim citizens.
Meanwhile President Obama and the mainstream press have been proven colossally
wrong in thinking the Arab Spring was the beginning of democracy in the Middle East.

Breaking News
On May 1 Reuters reported warplanes from the Islamic North Sudan fired on the
Republic of South Sudan.
500 miles west of Sudan in Nigeria a very similar situation is developing. The Islamic
Jihadist group Boko Haram which means, “Western education is a sin” are bitterly
opposed to secular education which contradicts Islam, are targeting Christians for
death.
Tribune Newspapers reports, “The group (Boko Haram) warned Christians to leave the
north, an area traditionally dominated by Muslims, for the predominately Christian
South.

President Obama just gave The Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt $1.4 Billion and released
$192 Million to the Palestinians with your U.S. Taxpayer dollars.
It is time America starts supporting those democratic countries who are under attack
from our common enemies who practice Jihad in the name of Islam. Islamic apartheid
in the Sudan and Nigeria are just two examples among many where America must
make a stand for Freedom and Liberty in Africa.
God Bless America and God Bless our Troops.

Issa Ready to File Contempt of Congress Against Eric Holder

2:04 pm in ATTORNEY GENERAL ERIC HOLDER, cbs reports, contempt citation, contempt of congress, contempt proceedings, Darrell Issa, documents Issa has subpoenaed, Eric Holder, GOP leadership, Headlines, Holder’s Department of Justice, house oversight committee, John Boehner, News Feed, Operation Fast and Furious, republican leadership by TPT Admin

By Matthew Boyle

House oversight committee chairman Rep. Darrell Issa and House Speaker John Boehner claim reports they are moving to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress soon — and reports claiming they are working together to do so — are inaccurate.

CBS News and the Los Angeles Times reported Friday morning that Boehner had green-lighted Issa’s plans to hold Holder in contempt of Congress over Operation Fast and Furious. Holder’s Department of Justice has provided only about 7,000 of the more than 70,000 pages of documents Issa has subpoenaed related to Operation Fast and Furious.

Issa and many others on Capitol Hill have threatened for months that they will hold Holder in contempt without actually doing it. This contempt citation — whose existence was confirmed on Fox News Friday afternoon by Issa — is the first official step in moving forward with contempt proceedings.

After the initial reports, a House Republican leadership aide told The Daily Caller that the LA Times and CBS reports were inaccurate. The GOP leadership aide said that “while there are very legitimate arguments to be made in favor of such an action [holding Holder in contempt], no decision has been made to move forward with one by the Speaker or by House Republican leaders.”

Initially, a spokesperson for Issa refused TheDC’s request for comment. But just hours after TheDC published a story detailing the appearance of infighting between Issa and Boehner, a House oversight committee spokesperson backed off and said the LA Times and CBS reports were inaccurate as well.

“The Justice Department has not fully cooperated with the investigation into gunwalking that occurred in Operation Fast and Furious,” the committee spokesperson told TheDC. “The House Oversight Committee continues to make necessary preparations to hold Attorney General Holder in contempt if the Justice Department refuses to change course and stop blocking access to critical documents.”

“While the committee continues to move toward consideration of contempt, it is important to note that the next step in the process of contempt must be made by the Oversight Committee,” the spokesperson added. “Reports, based on anonymous sources, that decisions for consideration of contempt on the House floor have already been made are inaccurate.”

US prepares for what could be last major Afghan offensive

For Taliban militants and U.S. strategists alike, all roads in this impoverished country of mountain passes, arid deserts and nearly impassable goat tracks lead to this ancient capital of 3 million people nestled in a high and narrow valley.

The Taliban made their intentions clear over the weekend, mounting spectacular coordinated attacks that spawned an 18-hour battle with Afghan and NATO forces. And now, the U.S. is gearing up for what may be the last major American-run offensive of the war — a bid to secure the approaches to the city.

While bombings and shootings elsewhere in Afghanistan receive relatively little attention, attacks in the capital alarm the general population, undermine the government’s reputation and frighten foreigners into fleeing the country. That’s why insurgents on Sunday struck locations that were so fortified they could cause little or no damage, including the diplomatic quarter, the parliament and a NATO base.

“These are isolated attacks that are done for symbolic purposes, and they have not regained any territory,” U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Monday.

The U.S.-led spring offensive, expected to begin in the coming weeks, may be NATO’s last chance to shore up Kabul’s defenses before a significant withdrawal of combat troops limits its options. The focus will be regions that control the main access routes, roads and highways into Kabul from the desert south and the mountainous east. These routes are used not only by militants but by traders carrying goods from Pakistan and Iran.

The strategy in eastern Afghanistan involves clearing militants from provinces such as Ghazni, just south of the capital. The pivotal region links Kabul with the Taliban homeland in the south and provinces bordering Pakistan to the east.

NATO, under U.S. command, will also conduct more operations in eastern provinces such as Paktika and Paktia that are considered major infiltration routes to the capital from insurgent safe havens in Pakistan.

Afghan and U.S. officials blamed the Pakistan-based Haqqani network, which is part of the Taliban and has close links with al-Qaida, for the weekend attacks that left 36 insurgents, eight policemen and three civilians dead in Kabul and three eastern provinces. But Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, said officials have not concluded whether the attacks emanated out of Pakistan.

Declining numbers of international troops in the coming months are also forcing coalition forces to focus less on remote and thickly populated places such as eastern Nuristan. They hope to move responsibility for those areas to the Afghan security forces.

Coalition forces last summer made gains in traditional Taliban strongholds such as Kandahar and Helmand provinces in the south, areas they must now hold with fewer troops. By September, as many as 10,000 U.S. Marines are scheduled to leave Helmand and hand over the lead for security to Afghan forces in the former Taliban stronghold.

“It’s going to be a very busy summer,” Gen. John Allen, the top U.S. and NATO commander, said recently. “The campaign will balance the draw down of the surged forces with the consolidation of our holdings in the south, continued combat operations” and an effort to push Afghan security forces into the lead.

The U.S. this month finished moving the 1st brigade of the 82nd Airborne into Ghazni to help clear out a Taliban stronghold in Andar district. It could be one of the largest remaining American clearing operations of the war.

It is not known when that operation will take place, but Ghazni is located at a key chokepoint with the country’s main highway from the south to Kabul running through it. The highway runs just past Andar district.

“If you secure Andar, you have secured Ghazni, and you have secured Afghanistan,” the governor of Ghazni, Musa Khan, told U.S. forces last week at a handover ceremony with departing Polish troops.

Eliminating the Ghazni problem is an important part of the plan to transition security responsibility from foreign forces to the nascent Afghan National Security Forces.

After September, the U.S.-led coalition may not have enough troops on the ground for such large-scale operations and will increasingly have to depend on the Afghans to take the lead.

The U.S.-led coalition is keen to show that the 330,000-strong Afghan forces are capable of filling in a vacuum left by the withdrawal of 33,000 U.S. forces by the end of September. It also wants to use them more and more in operations against insurgent forces in key battlegrounds such as the east.

Last week Afghan forces carried out an operation in eastern Nuristan, a Taliban stronghold, with only support from coalition forces.

“This was yet another example of the successful transition we have been seeing throughout the past year, as the ANSF are planning, leading and executing very productive combat operations against the insurgency,” Allen said. “We expect to see more of these types of successful ANSF-led operations as we progress further into the spring and summer,” he added.

Afghan forces are to peak at 352,000 by the end of the year and are expected to take over much of the fighting as the U.S. draws down an additional 23,000 troops to 68,000 by the end of September. U.S. troop levels reached a high of about 100,000 last year.

At age 14, Nick Springer was hiking the Appalachian Trail when he came down with a bout of meningitis that left him a quadruple amputee. But that hasn’t deterred him from participating in sports.

Now a world-class athlete, the Phoenix resident is a member of the U.S. National Wheelchair Rugby Team, which will compete in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. The games run Aug. 29 to Sept. 9, soon after the Olympics and in the same venue.

The rugby team won the gold medal in the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing.

“Getting into disabled sports is one of the big things that pulled me through,” Springer said. “It helps with quality of life.”

He is a regular at the Virginia G. Piper Sports & Fitness Center for Persons with Disabilities at 5031 E. Washington St. in Phoenix, which opened last fall. The center, a program of the non-profit Arizona Bridge to Independent Living, covers 45,000 square feet and is the first of its kind in the western United States.

It has a basketball court, indoor track, 50 pieces of fitness/training equipment and a 40-foot rock-climbing wall donated by the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority.

The center also has a therapy pool, lap pool and whirlpool with elevators, chair lifts and ramps.

“Quite a bit of effort went into making sure every piece of adaptive equipment was built in,” spokesman Loren Worthington said.

On the basketball court, the hoops can be raised or lowered for those in wheelchairs.

Overlooking the basketball court is a one-tenth-mile walking track with a low-impact surface to make walking easier for people with joint or bone ailments, and the track surface promotes friction, helpful in allowing leg prostheses to get a good grip.

Overlooking the court is a clear railing so people can sit in wheelchairs and watch the action. The railing is equipped with electrical outlets to accommodate people on ventilators.

Other programs at the center include yoga, nutrition education, adaptive rowing and power soccer.

Springer said participating in athletics gives him a goal, a benefit for a lot of people.

“Kids with new injuries … want to strive and do better at sports. It helps with rehabilitation, gives them a better attitude and makes for a stronger body,” he said.

Another advantage of the center, he said, is getting out and meeting others in wheelchairs.

“If they see this guy who’s successful in work, has his own family and can go hang out with friends, it gives a different outlook,” he said. “It gives guys who maybe are newly injured … an opportunity to work out on their own terms and be around other guys in wheelchairs. That’s what great about it.”

The center hosted a scuba-diving, rock-climbing and rugby event Saturday for disabled veterans, among them Keenan Lee of Mesa, a retired Air Force captain, pilot and veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He suffered work-related injuries that left him in a wheelchair and in constant pain.

One thing he used to love was scuba diving — he’s certified — and he had the opportunity to return to it Saturday at the center.

“I appreciate how they’re supporting the troops and giving us a better way of doing things like scuba diving,” Lee said. “I haven’t done that lately because of my injuries.”

One of the regulars at the center is Cory Hahn, who was playing baseball for Arizona State University last year when he injured his spine in a dive for second base, leaving him paralyzed from midchest to his toes.

“This place is a huge plus,” he said. “Coming back to school in Arizona, the big question was a place to work out. This is 10 minutes from campus.”

Not only is he strengthening muscles and improving skills at independent living, he said, he likes the center’s supportive atmosphere.

“It has a positive vibe,” he said. “Everybody here has some sort of injury. We all relate and learn from each other. … This is a great place to be. Anybody looking for rehabilitation, this is one place they should come to.”

Another regular is Savannah McKnuckles of Phoenix, who lost both feet in a pedestrian-truck accident in California.

“This gym has so many different machines,” she said. “I love to exercise. I talk to the Lord and ask Him to give me strength.”

Hundreds turned out for Operation American Patriot’s official inaugural launch gala with a dinner and silent auction in Scottsdale Saturday night.

The nonprofit organization serves the military, veterans and their families, offering an array of support and assistance programs.

Since its inception in September 2011, Operation American Patriot has assisted more than 500 veterans and organized several training seminars for the law enforcement agencies in the Valley.

Saturday night’s event featured Sen. John McCain, Rep. Trent Franks and Cardinals’ coach Ken Whisenhunt.

“We are grateful for their service and want to make their transition back home as easy as possible,” said Tooraj Bakhtiari, director of public affairs for Operation American Patriot. “Our volunteer board consists of representatives from Banner Health, BBVA Compass, Jobing.com, RE/MAX Excalibur, American Gold Star Mothers Inc., Blue Star Mothers of America Inc. and The Arizona Cardinals Football Club.”

Operation American Patriot was established without any governmental funding but relies on local grants and private supporters to assure sustainability.

The group is committed to meeting the needs of returning troops while cutting through red tape associated with government services.

It also aims to provide immediate resources like counseling to clients immediately, reduce incidents of PTSD and suicide in our military and establish job training and opportunities for returning veterans.

GAO report offers a window into the lives of wounded warriors

The dark effects of 10 years of warfare on injured fighters — drugs, anger, fear, frustration — are on display in a report on the Marine Wounded Warrior Battalion at Camp Lejeune, N.C., released by the Government Accountability Office.

The document is a reminder of how far away the suffering of these men and women and their families is from the consciousness of 99 percent of Americans.

As the report, released Friday, notes, however, some Americans are even willing to take advantage of those who have sacrificed and suffered in the name of defending the homeland. The culprits range from illegal drug dealers to some so-called charitable groups that, politely put, “sometimes do not have the best interests of Warriors at heart.” The report mentioned “a few [unnamed] agencies had expressed disappointment that TBI [traumatic brain injury] patients did not ‘look the part.’ ”

Many times, “visiting non-military organizations wanted to see a ‘poster child’ of a wounded Marine and they would offer donations for the selected personnel and not the unit as a whole,” the battalion chaplain told the GAO.

Some organizations would call in “looking for ‘visibly wounded’ Marines (burn victims, amputees) to participate in their events.” Some Marines complained to the GAO about “the ‘petting zoo’ environment created when certain non-profit agencies came to visit.”

The worst offenders simply had to be kept out of the barracks, according to the report. The Lejeune unit had to institute a screening process to guard against exploitation of wounded Marines.

The Marine Wounded Warrior program began in April 2007, in the wake of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center neglect scandal. It was to coordinate the medical and non-medical care for combat and non-combat wounded, ill or injured Marines and their families. The goal was to assist the service personnel back to active duty or transition them to civilian life.

With a regimental headquarters set up at Quantico, Va., two Marine Wounded Warrior Battalions were established, one at Camp Lejeune on the East Coast and the other on the West Coast at Camp Pendleton, Calif. Overall some 27,377 Marines have been assisted by the program.

At the time of the GAO visit in September 2010, there were 194 Marines in the Camp Lejeune Wounded Warrior Battalion, many suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), TBI or spinal cord injury. Of the group, 130 were wounded in theater of operations. Serious problems, such as TBI and PTSD, were handled at the Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune and through the TRICARE network in the local community.

A support team was established for each Wounded Warrior. The team included a non-commissioned officer as a section leader, a civilian medical case manager, a military or civilian primary care manager, and a civilian recovery care coordinator who acted as the primary point of contact.

Overall, the GAO found that the management and staff at the Battalion and Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune “were fully dedicated to providing the best available care and services.” But they faced “significant challenges.”

AGAIN? The minority wins over the majority AGAIN?

The U.S. Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office changed its patch logo several weeks ago after the atheist group, the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers (MAAFA), complained about the logo’s reference to God.

According to the linked article the logo originally read IN LATIN “Doing God’s Work with Other People’s Money.” However, it has been changed to read: “Doing Miracles with Other People’s Money.”

Is Obama’s Win On Gay Rights A Vindication?

2:16 am in General News by acai_berry

President Obama must be tempted to respond to his progressive critics with a quote from the old-school rapper Kool Moe Dee: “How ya like me now?” Repeal of the military’s bigoted and anachronistic “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy on gays in the military — a campaign promise that seemed to be slipping out of reach — doesn’t fully mend the relationship between Obama and the Democratic Party’s liberal wing. But it’s a pretty terrific start.

Tea Party Movement

6:45 am in General News by jannai pero

There are tea parties that little girls have with their imaginary friends then there is the Tea Party Movement. This Tea Party is not about imaginary anything but it is about the reality of where this country is headed and what Americans think about it. Some say the party started on February 19, 2009 when Rick Santelli anchor man for CNBC went on a tirade about the Obama government’s plan to bail out the “losers mortgages”. This event unfolded at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. A poor choice of words perhaps but a good indication about the frustrations many Americans are feeling towards our government today.

What is the Tea Party? What are they for or against? I know they are for the Constitution of the United States, the very basis our country was founded on. I know they are against expanded government and its intrusion into our lives. Less government, fewer taxes, a return to what our forefathers, who founded this nation, intended for our country and countrymen; freedom. These men and women are numbered in the thousands and are growing daily.

These people aren’t rabble rousers as they have been portrayed. These people aren’t violent and they have been accused of being violent. These people are you and me, our next door neighbors, our brothers, our grandparents; these are concerned citizens who are concerned about the path our country is going in. They have a right to meet, too congregate and protest in a lawful mannerly way. This is a right afforded to them by our laws of the land.

Whether you agree with this movement or disagree it doesn’t matter. What does matter is that it is our rights as American citizens to have the freedom to express ourselves and we should all be concerned about those rights being taken away from us.

Memorial day will soon be upon us, a day to reflect on those who valiantly gave their lives to preserve our way of life. Celebrate this holiday and honor the fallen heroes of those wars past and present. If you know anyone that served their country in the military show your appreciation for their devotion, their steadfast to stand with their country and defend its freedom. Visit Mall4Men.com and check out their military clocks, military watches and military rings they offer at reasonable prices. They also have a Gifts4Her department for that special lady in your life.
