Anti-Immigration Activist & Family Murdered? – Border Minutemen on High Alert

10:17 pm in General News by admin

Jason J.T. Ready and his family has been identified in the Gilbert, Arizona murder today near Phoenix. Several news agencies quickly called it a “murder suicide” despite the lack of evidence and reports that Ready had plans to meet with friends later that day.  Friends and family suspect that drug cartels are responsible because Ready intercepted bank account information, cells phones and over 10,000 pounds of drugs.  In addition, Ready and his organization is responsible for the arrest and conviction of over 40 cartel drug dealers.

Several Federal Agencies have been called to the scene.  Members of Ready’s group were told to “stand down” and be careful because the “agency” thought the drug cartel may have other “targets.”  As a result, Minutemen have begun positioning  supplies and resources for what some calling “war”.

George Zimmerman to be charged in Trayvon Martin shooting

1:24 pm in General News by admin

By , Wednesday, April 11, 1:56 PM

Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey plans to announce as early as Wednesday afternoon that she is charging neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the shooting of Trayvon Martin, according to a law enforcement official close to the investigation.

It was not immediately clear what charge Zimmerman will face.

Martin, 17 and unarmed, was shot and killed Feb. 26 by Zimmerman, who said he was acting in self-defense. Police in Sanford, Fla., where the shooting took place, did not charge Zimmerman, citing the state’s “stand your ground” law.

Corey told reporters Tuesday night that she would hold a news conference about the case within 72 hours. A news release from her office said the event will be held in Sanford or Jacksonville, Fla.

Benjamin Crump, who is representing the Martin family, said this week that Corey’s office had asked where Trayvon’s parents would be each day this week. They arrived Wednesday in Washington for a civil rights conference organized by the Rev. Al Sharpton, where they are scheduled to speak.

The announcement of a charge against Zimmerman would come a day after Zimmerman’s attorneys withdrew from the case, citing their inability to contact Zimmerman.

Lawyers Craig Sonner and Hal Uhrig on Tuesday expressed concern about Zimmerman’s emotional and physical well-being, saying he has taken actions without consulting them. They also said they do not know where Zimmerman is.

“You can stop looking in Florida,” Uhrig told reporters. “Look much further away than that.”

Corey said Monday that she would not bring the case before a grand jury, which was expected to convene this week. She said her decision to forgo the grand jury should not be viewed as a factor in determining whether charges will be filed.

Corey has indicated in recent weeks that she might not need a grand jury to bring charges against Zimmerman.

The lawyers said they stand by their assertions that Zimmerman acted in self-defense when he killed the 17-year-old, who was unarmed, but they acknowledged that they formed their impressions without meeting Zimmerman.

Call to Action: Help Pass A Real Budget

12:39 pm in General News by admin

Fellow Americans,
The House is scheduled to vote TODAY on one of the most conservative budgets ever offered. Jim Jordan and the Republican Study Committee have presented a plan that balances the budget in 5 YEARS without raising taxes. By contrast, Paul Ryan’s plan takes 30 years to balance the books and President Obama’s plan never does. Among other things, this budget establishes a moratorium on earmarks, repeals ObamaCare tax increases, and simplifies the current tax code.

Important Budget Vote Today!
If you think it should take less than three decades to get away from a sea of red ink, please call your Congressman toll free at 877-762-8710 and tell them to vote for H.Con.Res. 113 – Cut, Cap, and Balance: A Fiscal Year 2013 Budget.Click Here to find your congress member.

Congress is currently consider at least 5 budgets that we know of. After careful analysis and review, we think only two make sense for America. They are the budgets proposed by Rob Jordan and Ron Paul. We are opposed to the budget proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan.

Other Budgets Being Considered:

  • VOTE NO – On the Rep. Paul Ryan Budget. I can’t see a budget that doesn’t account for those cuts nor is one that balances in 2050 reasonable though I like some of the structural changes he proposes. Rep. Ryan does not support a “Balanced Budget” and even voted for the We have a spending problem and we are on a path to a worse out come than Greece.
  • VOTE YES – Rep. Rob Jordan & Republican Study Committee Budget. The budget proposal freezes government spending to 2008 levels and balances the budget in five years. Click Here for more information on the RSC Budget.
  • VOTE YES – Rep. Ron Paul Budget. I prefer Ron Paul’s one trillion in immediate cuts and a balanced budget in four for we can easily hold Ron Paul and Congress accountable in two Congressional elections.
  • VOTE NO – Rep. Cooper & LaTourette Budget. It would increase taxes by $2 Trillion!

Sincerely,

Was Trayvon Martin a Drug Dealer?

11:24 pm in General News by admin

Innocent victim with shooter

Above is the iconic picture we’ve been become accustomed to seeing everywhere in the media, used to represent the recent Trayvon Martin shooting in Sanford, Florida. From everything the public has been told, Trayvon Martin was a fresh-faced, innocent looking teenager and the visage of the man who shot him, George Zimmerman, is right out of a booking photo.

The media narrative being sold is quite clear, Trayvon Martin is the innocent victim here and George Zimmerman is a horrible bigot who attacked the young man for doing nothing more than buying skittles while being black. Even Barack Obama seems to accept the fresh-faced innocence of Trayvon, stating, “If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon.” More on that later.

It’s becoming more and more clear however that the innocent appearance the mainstream media is so desperate to apply to Trayvon isn’t at all accurate. The picture we’re used to seeing to represent Trayvon Martin appears to be a far cry from how he actually looked once he was a few years older.

More recent picture

Extended School Suspension

There has been a lot of analysis about the character of George Zimmerman in the media, and surprisingly little about Trayvon Martin.

For instance, a few days before he was killed, Trayvon was suspended from school for ten days.

Still, Trayvon had nonviolent behavioral issues in school, and on the day he was killed, he had been suspended for 10 days from Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School in North Miami-Dade. “He was not suspended for something dealing with violence or anything like that. It wasn’t a crime he committed, but he was in an unauthorized area [on school property],” Martin said, declining to offer more details. Before that, Trayvon attended Miami Carol City High School near his mother’s home in Miami Gardens.

There has been very little follow-up in investigating exactly why Trayvon was suspended for such a long period of time for what seems to be the relatively minor offense of “being in an unauthorized area.” In most schools, something like that would be a detention, or one-day, in school suspension at most. Not ten days.

Of course, this is why Trayvon was staying as his Father’s house, so far away from school. And it also explains why George Zimmerman, who by all accounts seemed to stay on top of everything that happened in his neighborhood, didn’t recognize him that evening, Trayvon didn’t really live there, and was only in town because of the suspension.

It seems we may not find out more anytime soon, as a lawyer representing Trayvon’s family has sealed his school records.

Multiple Tattoos

To learn more about Trayvon’s character, we have to look to his friends and family to offer clues. Unfortunately, it seems as if most people who knew him are intent on cleaning up his image, rather than discussing what Trayvon was really like.

Even though Trayvon was only 17, he already was sporting gold teeth, and several large tattoos. This one was on his wrist, apparently of his girlfriend’s mother’s name.

Trayvon Martin Wrist Tattoo

This photo, taken from Tray’s MySpace page, shows another large tattoo that took up most of his upper arm.

Trayvon Martin Arm Tattoo

Twitter

It seems that Tray was also on Twitter, but his account seems to have been recently deleted by his family or friends.

His screen name was “@NO_LIMIT_NIGGA, as you can see from the twitpic accountscreenshot above. He was also a member of a twitter hash group #team4dat.

At first, I was skeptical that anyone would maintain an account with that sort of derogatory slur in the title, but after doing some research, it’s apparent that it was Trayvon’s account.

The account was in existence long before the shooting occurred a few weeks ago, and was deleted only recently, there are still dozens of references to @NO_LIMIT_NIGGA ingoogle’s cache.

The associated twitpic account matches the account name and is still online at the time of publication. Most of the pics were uploaded months ago, so this account was associated with Trayvon long before the shooting took place.

Several of Tray’s friends have been very open about referring to Trayvon using that account as well. His cousin, who is quite active on Twitter, refers to Trayvon more than a dozen times using the @NO_LIMIT_NIGGA nickname.

Violence & Gang Activity

There seem to be several allusions to violence on Tray’s Twitter account.

His friends posted supportive messages using it as well, about how happy they were that Trayvon whooped Zimmerman’s ass before he died.

@NO_LIMIT_NIGGA IMA MISS YU TILL I DIE DOG I KNOW YU WHOOPED HIS ASS DOE.. CUZ I PRAY GOD HELP ME AND WATCH YU LOVE YOU CUZZ REST ETERNALLY.

Violence one

Another post makes reference to Trayvon having “swung on a bus driver” a few days before he died.

Did that have something to do with his ten-day suspension?

Bus driver violence

On Trayvon’s MySpace page, at least one of his top friends, Romario305, is featured making a gang sign towards the camera in his default profile picture.

Gang signs

Almost all of this is in stark contrast to the media’s central narrative that Trayvon was a normal, happy, well-adjusted teenager.

Instead of that, we are seeing long suspensions from school, tattoos, racially-charged epitaphs, and violence.

Drug Culture

Several of his friends have posted pictures of rolled blunts to twitter in memorial to Trayvon.

In memory of Trayvon

There is also fairly direct evidence that Trayvon may have been a small-time drug-dealer.

On Facebook on February 5th, his friend posts on his wall asking to talk business. Trayvon says he doesn’t have a phone available and his friend says, “Damn were u at a nigga needa plant.”

Trayvon plants

That Facebook url should still work, if anyone is intrepid enough to check it out.

Unless Trayvon was selling Orchids, it seems fairly reasonable to posit that he may have been somewhat well-known among his friends for selling marijuana.

Conclusions

Hopefully this info paints a somewhat different picture of Trayvon than the one the media has been forcing down our throats for the last several weeks.

This is a complex case, and while all the facts are not in yet, we do know that Zimmerman was well within his rights to make verbal contact with someone he didn’t know or recognize in his neighborhood.

In fact, that’s exactly what Neighborhood Watch groups are for, to be the “eyes and ears” of the community. It appears that Zimmerman was very good at this job.

No matter how offended someone might be to have a stranger come up and ask what they are doing there, it doesn’t give anyone a license to commit assault.

From what I can tell, Zimmerman was doing a routine neighborhood watch, called in someone he considered suspicious, and was maintaining a visual on him until the police came.

Then he was attacked, had his nose broken and was in a prone position while crying out for help.

Zimmerman was pinned to the ground, according to a witness, and was still being beaten by someone much younger than him.

Many people are reading a lot into the weight difference between Martin and Zimmerman, but Zimmerman was also 5’9 and out of shape. I’m pretty sure many tubby thirty-year-olds wouldn’t do well against a fit, 6’3, 17-year-old.

This is a textbook self-defense case, and I’d urge anyone reading to look at the full set of facts before drawing conclusions.

Our Republic is in the hands of mad men!

7:38 pm in Action Alerts, General News by admin

We’ve updated our email sending address.  Please add info@teaparty-command.com to your address book to ensure that you’re receiving Tea Party Command emails.

My Fellow Patriots,

First, let me give you some good news. We have continued the fight and our ranks continue to swell with new members from across the nation. Our members have sent hundreds of thousands of faxes and emails to Congress and we are having a positive impact. Our system is working, we just need to keep up the pressure and push forward. Due to the success and growth of our organization, we have formed a new national tea party, Tea Party Command (TPC). Tea Party Command supports tea party leaders & activists by leading specific operations and communications, logistics, and training. We understand and respect that each tea party is a “sovereign” entity and can choose to utilize TPC or not. You can find and post events, join tea party groups, create petitions and utilize our special tools. Consider us a resource and training center for the grassroots to fight DC. Click Here to visit the website and see a national list of tea party groups and events.

Now for the bad news, the past several months have left me extremely worried about the future of our country. Both big government and corporations have given birth to a tyrannical form of government. With an approval rating of less than 10%, Congress no longer represents the people.

Nearly every day, Congress continues to vote against the will of The People. Just last Friday they voted against the Balanced Budget Amendment which polls show over 70 percent of The People supported. We are no longer operating as our Founding Fathers intended when they created this Constitutional Republic. We The People have lost control of our Republic to the hands of corrupt mad men and special interests!

Accountability Now & Pending Legislation

We cannot afford to have blinders on as we run up to election day 2012. The battle for liberty and fiscal responsibility is happening now in Congress. Have you forgotten how hard it is to repeal bad legislation? If the Republicans gain control of government in 2012, history has shown they will support bad laws such as the Patriot Act which assault our Constitution and they may continue to spend trillions just like the Democrats. We must hold our representatives accountable now, or they will run wild when they have a majority. This week and next week should be a very busy for Congress. We are expecting the following “Turkeys”:

Super Committee: From the beginning we all knew what Congress should have known… that this “Super Committee” was useless and un-Constitutional. For years Congress has failed to pass a budget and then actually had the nerve to attempt to pass its responsibility to a committee. Someone said it best when they said, “committees are where things go to die”. Leave it to Congress to form a “Super Committee” that violates the Constitution to fulfill an obligation already imposed on Congress by the Constitution! We fully expected it to “crash and burn.”

Continuting Resolutions: Senator Rubio issued a press release decrying the CRs:“I’m sorry to report that once again last night the Senate voted on yet ANOTHER (emphasis added) continuing resolution. Just another band-aid stop gap measure that only serves to avoid confronting our long term challenges with bold solutions. When I first got to here, I fought against the idea we could continue to run things this way. That these “CRs” as they are called, should remind us of how we got here in the first place. Why are we funding government in two or three week increments? Because when Democrats ran the House, Senate and the White House, they didn’t pass a budget.”

We would have to agree with the comments of the distinguished Senator. A line in the sand must be drawn. We must stand up and tell them “No More Spending”!

H.R.822 – National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011: A treasonous bill that was sponsored by Rep. Clifford Stearns, a Republican, that represents Florida’s 6th District for12 Terms! This bill is a very clever attempt by Republicans to have national gun control and violate states’ rights. We don’t need to federalize our Second Amendment Rights or weaken our states’ rights. The Federal Government’s plan is simple regarding your second amendment rights: First, they want to “Register”, and next they want to “Regulate.” We can all imagine that in a very short time the Federal Government could require a national gun ID system that would make all state laws equal. In other words, they would ban all hi-capacity magazines and guns they deem “non-sporting.” We will say this only once – The Second Amendment is designed for The People to defend themselves against the government, foreign invaders, etc. Hunting is not mentioned any where in the Constitution. Feel free to send an email to Rep. Stearns atpaul.flusche@mail.house.gov or call him at (202) 225-5744.

Net Neutrality: FCC taking over the Internet: Many people don’t know this interesting tidbit, but “Net Neutrality” was initially started by the Bush Administration and now is being pushed by the Obama Administration. The Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) Net Neutrality Act, passed last December, gives President Obama and the FCC power over the Internet. Every website you visit … every server you access … every blog you create … every bit of information you read … is about to come under the administration of the Federal Government. And, they can shut down any website they want, without judicial review! (Think about what happened in Egypt during the uprisings!). If you think this is an overstatement you would be wrong. Everyone should be interested in learning more about this issue and then taking action immediately.

PROTECT IP Act of 2011 – S.968: “PROTECT-IP Act” is a bipartisan bill (it’s always great to see the Republicans and Democrats working against the People) that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the Federal Government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting “creativity”. The law would let the Federal Government and corporations censor entire sites– they just have to convince a judge that the site is “dedicated to copyright infringement.” The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner and has censored Facebook and other social networking sites! Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it (think Youtube and Twitter) would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill. According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million dollars a year — that’s for a fix that won’t work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, censors the internet, and kills our freedom. This bill is bad for our future and does not protect your rights to free information or freedom of speech. Click Here for more information.

Quick economic view: The Euro is disappearing faster than donuts at a “Weight Watchers” meeting. The Bottom line is that Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Spain (PIIGS) have too much sovereign debt. These countries are facing the realities that inevitably result from big government and lack of economic growth. Germany is largely holding up the house of cards and is looking for a way back to the Deutsch Mark. Germany is also attempting to revamp the EU agreement and force Great Britain to join and give up the Pound. The effect of Euro collapse on US markets will be larger than most expect because nearly 50% of our commercial paper is connected to the Euro. The Chinese have quietly increased their value of the zen. This will help ease some of the pain we predict that will be caused by super inflation.

My final thoughts

As disturbing as the news and our current situation is, the sooner we confront the enemy, the better off we are. The first step in healing is acknowledging the problem. America is broke. We can’t continue to spend. The only way to end this madness is to have Congress go “Cold Turkey” on spending, just like anyone who as an addiction.

Sincerely,

Everett Wilkinson & Team

Union Thugs begin violence and destruction of Wisconsin Capitol Building

8:26 pm in General News by Adrian Smith

Who and what the Marxist Union spawn really are…
Excerpt:
“Capitol is in an uproar! A man sported a sign, “burn Walker”. Complete with a drawing of Gov. Walker withering in flames of fire.

“Approximately 3,500 protesters are present. When I left they had dragged a sound system into the capitol building. The first speaker was outraged by the “unconstitutional metal detectors”. He followed it up by declaring that any windows screwed down “violate the American Disabilities act”.

“Much to the crowds delight, the main speaker promised ” we will break in tonight, the next night and the next night if we have too”. I left the scene as they began chanting, ” we wont leave”.”

Tea Party Patriots Dominates The First Week of Florida’s 2011 Legislative Session

The presence of tea party patriots was definitely felt by lawmakers in Tallahassee for the opening session. The tea parties started opening day of session, where tea party members from around the state arrived at the Capitol at 7 a.m. to begin making rounds to talk with lawmakers about critical issues. The “Save Our State” rally at noon on the steps of the Old Capitol Building where Governor Scott and Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll made an appearance and spoke to the crowd, inviting them to view the State-of-the-State speech in the overflow area. Later that afternoon the first ever Tea Party Caucus was announced by Rep. Mike Weinstein and other lawmakers to an overflow crowd of Tea Party members.

During the week, tea party members attended several committee hearings and gave their perspective of the bills and amendments. Tea party members were given material and directions to committees by tea party legislative teams .

On Thursday, The Tea Party Network with hosted their second Summit where leaders of the Networks’ 58 Tea Party groups were invited to attend and hear lawmakers and others speak to them about critical topics of this session. “We had a great turnout of lawmakers that were eager to speak to us and sometimes answer the hard questions,” said Sullivan.

A sampling of speakers included: CFO Jeff Atwater, Senate President Mike Haridopolos, Press Secretary from the Foundation for Florida’s Future, Jaryn Emhof spoke to the group about the teacher merit pay bill, and two representatives from the Governor’s budget office, Tracey Fannon and Jerry McDaniel, spoke about the Governor’s budget proposal and took questions from the audience.

Other speakers throughout the day included: Rep. Doug Broxson, Rep. Keith Perry, Sen. Alan Hays, Rep. Sen. Paula Dockery, Sen. Don Gaetz, Sen. Joe Negron, Former Sen. Carey Baker, Rep. Michael Bileca and Sen. Greg Evers. Rounding out the day, members where addressed by Mr. Frantz Kebreau, the National Director of the National Association for the Advancement of Conservative People of all Colors (NAACPC).

Despite weather forecasts and rain from the previous night and that morning, the tea party rally called “StandWithFlorida.com” took place around noon at the Old Capitol Steps. Speakers included Dean Cannon, Speaker of the House, Rep. Scott Plakon, Frantz Kebreau, the National Director of the National Association for the Advancement of Conservative People of all Colors (NAACPC), Joe Kaufman, American’s Hate, Jack Oliver, Floridian For Immigration Enforcement, and Everett Wilkinson, Florida State Coordinator for Tea Party Patriots. During the rally tea party members enjoyed the music of jazz band whose members were all African American. The composition of the crowd was very ethically diverse causing many of the speakers to reference it. Several tea party members were emotionally moved by when the band played a special version of “Stand By Me” that encouraged members to “stand united regardless of color for America.”

“Despite the tea party movement being very decentralized and grassroots.” Everett Wilkinson, State Coordinator for Tea Party Patriots, “it continues to grow and make an impact both legislatively and and in the hearts and minds of Americans. We will continue our march against the out of control spending and restore the government role to a position where our Founding Fathers perceived it.”

Press Release: Tea Party Supports Gov. Rick Scott’s Decision to Reject High Speed Rail

4:52 pm in Congress, Economic News, General News by admin

Immediate Release (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) South Florida Tea Party (SFTP) officially stands in strong support of Florida Governor Rick Scott’s decision to reject High Speed Rail.

Governor Rick Scott officially sent a letter today to Ray LaHood, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, formally rejecting $2.4 Billion Dollars Federal Stimulus money for the High Speed Rail Project. In the letter Scott outlines his argument against spending the money and gives suggestions to projects where Scott feels their is a need and would create jobs.

The tea party movement has been fighting the High Speed Rail Project for the last couple of years, because of the massive financial burden placed on taxpayers. Opponents to the High Speed Rail Project quickly pointed out the fiscal and logical problems with the project. Examples included the high cost of job creation and the over $100 dollars estimated cost per ticket the taxpayers would fund.

In the last couple of months resistance to High Speed Rail only increased despite the best efforts of special interest groups. Most notably, proponents of High Speed Rail brought in the Prime Minister of Japan to pitch the project to Gov. Scott. There were plans introduced that part of project would be financed through private companies.

In the end, the High Speed Rail Project could not overcome the cost or even logic of the project. Scott’s decision was very logical and popular.

Everett Wilkinson, Chairman of South Florida Tea Party & Florida State Coordinator for Tea Party Patriots, said “Governor Rick Scott is again shows that he will do what is best for ‘We The People” and ignore special interests. Let’s see if the rest of the Florida Legislature will follow in his foot steps.”

All it took to make them grow was for the U.S. to send some well-intentioned but misguided signals at the wrong time. Does the following description ring true regarding the current situation in Egypt? “An established autocracy with a record of friendship with the U.S. is attacked by insurgents.” There soon materializes “a growing clamor for American

Only In Gov’t Do All Benefits Justify Costs

8:52 pm in Economic News, General News by Scott Herron

Despite the old saying, “Don’t cry over spilled milk,” the Environmental Protection Agency is doing just that. We all understand why the Environmental Protection Agency was given the power to issue regulations to guard against oil spills, such as that of the Exxon Valdez in Alaska or the more recent BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. But not everyone understands that any power given to any bureaucracy for any purpose can be stretched far beyond

Stalling On Fan, Fred

1:44 pm in General News by Abby Anderson

Home Finance: Fannie and Freddie are still bleeding losses, costing taxpayers billions more each month. Yet the White House continues to delay reforms, in defiance of a congressional order. On Monday, the White House was to deliver a report to Congress proposing fixes to the government-sponsored mortgage giants at the center of the financial crisis. It was under statutory requirement to make that Jan. 31 deadline. But it blew it. The White House

Would We Drill For $200 Oil?

11:23 am in General News by A. pALMA

Energy Security: As unrest spreads in the Middle East, threatening oil transport and oil-rich kingdoms, our laughable energy policy may come home to roost. Better get those wind turbines spinning in a hurry. Between them, the Suez Canal and adjoining pipeline transport some 4.5 million barrels of oil per day. More than 35,000 ships used the canal in 2009, about 10% of them oil tankers. The thought of the Muslim Brotherhood in control of it should

Egypt Means Real Trouble For Israel

9:01 am in Economic News, General News by Aaron Sparks

Middle East: No matter what ends up replacing President Mubarak and his harsh government, history may rewind to the 1970s for Israel — with the Camp David Accords possibly erased in the process. There are few attitudes more dangerous than being dreamy-eyed about democracy. The state of Israel is the only established democratic power in the whole of the Middle East. Yet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — and the Israeli people — are far

No Longer A Law

6:30 am in Economic News, General News by Abdom Roig

The Law: Already bruised and unpopular, ObamaCare has now been issued a death sentence. Yet the White House says it will “proceed apace” with its implementation. Has anyone there heard of checks and balances? It’s worth noting that Monday’s ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Roger Vinson that the Democrats’ health care overhaul is unconstitutional is only the latest setback for the badly flawed legislation inflicted on the nation last March. The

Obama Invites Crisis If He Ignores Ruling

4:14 am in Economic News, General News by Abdom Roig

The decision by federal judge Roger Vinson striking down President Obama’s signature health care law effectively ends ObamaCare unless some higher court overturns it. In spite of this overwhelming rebuke of the law, some Birkenstock-wearing legal analysts are trying to argue that Vinson’s ruling could be ignored by the administration. That’s why this week’s action by Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen is so significant. Van Hollen has

Egypt Reveals Party Shift On Foreign Policy

11:21 pm in Economic News, General News by Acai BDU

The democratic uprising in Egypt has brought into relief a gradual and little-noticed transformation in American politics. Over the last decade, ideological divisions over the role of democracy and human rights in American foreign policy have been scrambled. In the meantime, President Obama has restored foreign policy realism to the White House, giving a liberal gloss to what had traditionally been a conservative disposition. This mildly liberal

Waking Up Tyrants

6:40 pm in General News by angie fitch

Freedom: Egypt’s revolution has rattled dictators everywhere. Some are responding by moving toward reform, others by cracking down. Yes, there’s a difference between authoritarian and totalitarian regimes. Judging by the chain reaction of responses from as far away as Belarus, Venezuela and Thailand, it’s as if an invisible activating agent detectable only by dictators sounded an alarm. Seems no one wants to be “the next Egypt.” But they haven’t

Fighting Dirty

Nuclear Terror: U.S. politicians were secretly told years ago that al-Qaida can build a “dirty bomb” — or worse. Is the warning of a nuclear or biological 9/11 enough? Or must we experience it? On Wednesday, Britain’s Daily Telegraph reported that classified U.S. government communications given to WikiLeaks reveal that the nuclear terrorism alarm bells have been ringing for years.

Payback Time For The Latest Devil We Knew

1:50 pm in Economic News, General News by Acai Berry

Bargains with the devil never end well. For decades, successive U.S. administrations have embraced autocratic, repressive regimes in the Arab world — and now, as we see in the bloody streets of Cairo, it’s time to pay the price. Officials in Washington could do little more than watch helplessly Wednesday as goon squads loyal to dictator Hosni Mubarak made a violent attempt to drive pro-democracy protesters out of Tahrir Square. Before learning of

Investors Charged With Managing Risk Mustn’t Confuse Ideology With Science

11:34 am in General News by Brian Smith

As our planet’s climate has continued to change, those who aren’t convinced by the scientific evidence have increasingly turned to attacking climate scientists. When scientists happen to discover a problem that might require government intervention — from lead in water, to acid rain, to aerosols eating away at the ozone layer — industry groups and the politicians they influence have aligned to attack the scientists instead of honestly debating

Gore’s Unending Blizzard Of Lies

Hoaxes: As the nation digs itself out, the grand wizard of global warming comes out of hiding and blames it all on that SUV stuck in your driveway. A blizzard is a terrible thing to waste. What has been dubbed the Groundhog Day Blizzard has caused Al Gore to poke his head out of his massive carbon-generating mansion in Nashville, Tenn., to blame the 2,000-mile storm on our alleged obsession with fossil fuels. Sorry, Al, but in Chicago the solar

Crony Capitalism Or Raw Corruption?

11:37 pm in General News by 5280Patriot

Favoritism: It’s good to have friends in high places. Last month, the White House issued tough new rules on CO2 emissions. This month, its biggest corporate supporter wins an exemption. Something smells here. This has become a pattern for this administration: Impose costly new regulations on the economy, then let some corporations and unions avoid them. That’s just what happened in California, with the so-called Avenal Energy project. That badly
