Press Release: Tea Party Supports Gov. Rick Scott’s Decision to Reject High Speed Rail

4:52 pm in Congress, Economic News, General News by admin

Immediate Release (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) South Florida Tea Party (SFTP) officially stands in strong support of Florida Governor Rick Scott’s decision to reject High Speed Rail.

Governor Rick Scott officially sent a letter today to Ray LaHood, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, formally rejecting $2.4 Billion Dollars Federal Stimulus money for the High Speed Rail Project. In the letter Scott outlines his argument against spending the money and gives suggestions to projects where Scott feels their is a need and would create jobs.

The tea party movement has been fighting the High Speed Rail Project for the last couple of years, because of the massive financial burden placed on taxpayers. Opponents to the High Speed Rail Project quickly pointed out the fiscal and logical problems with the project. Examples included the high cost of job creation and the over $100 dollars estimated cost per ticket the taxpayers would fund.

In the last couple of months resistance to High Speed Rail only increased despite the best efforts of special interest groups. Most notably, proponents of High Speed Rail brought in the Prime Minister of Japan to pitch the project to Gov. Scott. There were plans introduced that part of project would be financed through private companies.

In the end, the High Speed Rail Project could not overcome the cost or even logic of the project. Scott’s decision was very logical and popular.

Everett Wilkinson, Chairman of South Florida Tea Party & Florida State Coordinator for Tea Party Patriots, said “Governor Rick Scott is again shows that he will do what is best for ‘We The People” and ignore special interests. Let’s see if the rest of the Florida Legislature will follow in his foot steps.”

South Florida Tea Party, INC (SFTP) is is a non-partisan, non-profit social welfare organization dedicated to furthering the common good and general welfare of the people of the United States. SFTP is the largest tea party in Florida with over 20,000 members. For more information, visit www.SouthFloridaTeaParty.org

Tea Party Patriots, Inc. (“TPP”) is a non-partisan, non-profit social welfare organization dedicated to furthering the common good and general welfare of the people of the United States. TPP is the original and largest national grassroots tea party organization that is composed of over 2700 individual tea party groups. TPP furthers this goal by educating the public and promoting the principles of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government and free markets. Is Davos Relevant?

11:07 pm in Economic News by Scott Herron

Global Elite: When he planned this year’s World Economic Forum, the annual gathering in Davos, Switzerland, Klaus Schwab stressed “collective sacrifice.” Apparently the keepers of the attendees’ budgets didn’t get the memo. Davos, of course, has long since become the place for jet-setting power brokers to attend, or to be seen attending. If you can get invited, then you’re somebody incalculably important. President Can’t Tackle Debt With Just Talk

8:41 pm in Economic News by acai_berry

DAVOS, Switzerland — The state of the union is … leaderless. Sounds harsh, but when it comes to digging America out from what President Obama calls its “mountain of debt,” I’m becoming increasingly worried this assessment is accurate. The president talks the talk about fiscal responsibility. But the evidence suggests he’s not willing to spend the political capital to translate that talk into action. Judge Obama by his own standards. “We have to

Fright Of Egypt

An Ally Imperiled: What Egyptians are demonstrating against, whether they know it or not, is socialism. What they — and we — could end up with is another Iran. Is President Obama repeating Carter’s Shah betrayal? Revolutions are like fires. They can make life better, or they can destroy. America’s Next Financial Crisis Is Already Here

Middle East Is On The Verge Of Convulsing

Things are about to go from bad to worse in the Middle East. An Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement is nowhere in sight. Lebanon just became a Hezbollah state, which is to say that Iran has become an even more important regional power, and Egypt, once stable if tenuously so, has been pitched into chaos. This is the most dire prospect of them all. The dream of a democratic Egypt is sure to produce a nightmare. Egypt’s problems are immense. It has a

The Newest Nation

Africa: Far from the rage in the streets of Cairo, there’s joy in the air in the tiny cities of South Sudan. A referendum’s results there should lead to creation of a new nation. It holds some lessons. After 56 years filled with two civil wars and 2 million dead, one doesn’t expect good news from a godforsaken place like South Sudan. But a popular referendum, held from Jan. 9 to Jan. 15, may change that. Some 4 million of Sudan’s 8 million

If he takes over, it’ll be a disaster not just for Egypt, but also for the U.S. and the West. The Revolution In Middle East Is Growing Up

Nobody said it better than Hosni Mubarak: “Our eventual goal is to create an equal society, not a society of privileges and class distinctions. Social justice is the first rule for peace and stability in society.” But that was in November 1981, a few weeks after he had become president of Egypt. Have Bernanke And Ethanol Sunk Egypt? The People Cannot Afford To Buy Bread
